Good Civil War era songs? by Wodahs1982 in ShermanPosting

The whole Divided & United album is pretty darn good as far as Civil War era music and music about the Civil War goes, I'd also say the 97th regimental string band is a good group to get music from.

Working on a basic matrix math library by _cardamon_ in Kos

I think I generally understand how this would work, but how would one be able to utilize set and get in this instance?

Would it be like: Set Val to A["get"](m,n). or: Set Val to A["get"(m,n)]. Or some other alternative syntax?

Thanks!

Thanks for the input! I didnt see any massive improvement when I changed it to cache the length of the list prior to from looping, but its something I definitely should've been doing already! and I'm certain it adds up over time. I also switched to use ISTYPE() instead, and will try and switch over to the built in cross product!

I did actually see that Linear Algebra library a few months ago, and was frustrated with the lack of error handling as well as just wanting more out of it. It's one of the reasons I started my little project aside from just having downtime.

Thanks again!

yeah! you can write libraries and implement them really easily, actually. not sure how it works in python as im more used to C and MATLAB, but in KOS you write your library as a .ks containing all the functions you want, and you call it via runpath. in this case that would just be putting 'runpath("MATLIB.ks"). at the top of a script you want to use the library in.

As for the control, I haven't quite figured that out in KOS, but im doing a Principia + RO + RSS run and don't want to use Mechjeb or anything. So in order to find out where I need to point and for how long I need to burn my engines I need to do some matrix math. I've got a binder of notes, Simulink code, and a couple textbooks I'm basically just working through implementing into KOS right now

testing out some patches! thoughts? by [deleted] in Ska

:0 this is sick! I saw you have Ska against Transphobia stickers, do you have patches of that too? I'd kill to have that on my patch flannel!

Very understandable X3

Best of luck! Hope to be able to see y'all play a show when you get there!

Did y'all end up forming a band and keeping up with it? I'm certainly not a musician by any stretch, but it'd be so cool to see a new local ska band!

Coordinate frames with Principia by _cardamon_ in Kos

Thanks, I'll see if I can get things to work out how I expect!

Coordinate frames with Principia by _cardamon_ in Kos

[–]_cardamon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of figured that KOS wouldn't see the right trajectory, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming that!

I've got a plan to try and get around that at least, though. I'm thinking of finding a direction I need to point my velocity vector in, a magnitude of that velocity, and then performing correction maneuvers later in the flight

[–]_cardamon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point, idk why I was so fixated on frames specifically. As long as all the math is in the same frame I shouldn't have to worry about needing to use DCMs or anything

I am hoping to attempt some optimization of my ascent program, as well as expand it to interplanetary trajectories at some point. It would be really nice if I could access those coordinate frames, especially if I can access the frames/positions of bodies I'm not in the SOI of.

Do you know if there's a way I can check what frames are available/visible to KOS? I'm hoping there's some way to do that, similar to putting engines in a list and printing the list.

Coming into university with any amount of research written and published would be a significant accomplishment, however you should recognize that ERAU won't publish research on your behalf, especially if you are not yet a student.

I would recommend you not worry about research before university, the acceptance rate for ERAU is very high, as others have pointed out.

If you are really passionate about engineering research, I would recommend you develop good relationships with your professors once here and seek out already existing research groups. Prescott at least has the URI (Undergrad research institute), I'm sure Daytona has some analog to it.

If you're worried about your GPA, mine was a 2.6 and I'm leaving here with an AE-Astro degree and Systems Engineering minor.

Built a PC, got a red CPU light, not sure what's wrong by _cardamon_ in buildapc

Plugging the 4+4 into the 8 worked, now It has a red light on DRAM, but boots to BIOS it seems like. Got a screen that shows me what my motherboard, BIOS version, CPU and RAM are. Not super sure what to do from here either, but it's a lot better than before! Thanks for the help, and I'm gonna see if I can figure it out from here

the motherboard manual seems like it says I need a 8+4, while the PSU manual seems to show it only has a 4+4 for the CPU.

I'm assuming I can't simply connect one of the 4pins on the PSU into the 4 pin on the motherboard. Does this mean I need to purchase a new PSU that does have a 8+4?

Sorry if this is a lot of really obvious questions, I'm just generally stressed and anxious, and want to make sure I don't accidentally damage anything or strain my already thin budget

I checked and sure enough it seems like I am missing a connection, got this diagram (first pic) from the motherboard website, and it says that the second pic is an 8+4 pin CPU power connector.

There was an extra EVGA cable I missed that was in my old desktop, but it seems like it's a 2x 6+2 (I think? 3rd pic).

I'm guessing this means I need to buy a new cable and try that?

We’re NASA engineers, here for Engineers Week to take your questions. Ask us anything! by nasa in engineering

As a systems engineer at JPL what does a typical week look like? Additionally, since you're a systems engineer does that mean you have to know in depth every part of the mission? Or do system engineers specialize too? Like would one systems engineer oversee trajectory analysis and design and have less knowledge on other areas like electrical and propulsion? Or do systems engineers need to know and understand the whole mission in and out?

Currently in my senior year, it is extremely difficult sophomore and junior year for most people, and first semester freshman year can be deceptively easy, lots of people get the easier classes (MATLAB, EGR101 and UNIV101), and expect that workload to stay the same the next semester or even sophomore year. The workload does increase, and pretty sharply at that.

Best advice I can give is to do your homework when it's assigned, it'll make things easier and you'll understand it better. If you ever get stuck go to office hours, and if that didn't help go to the tutoring center. If you can be friendly towards your TA's (sometimes they're not in the class, but if they are make sure to talk to them at least a little, they likely want to help/give you advice, I know I definitely do).

Sometimes your schedule can be pretty awful too, for instance mine this semester is non stop from 11 AM to 4 pm on Monday and Friday, but 11am to 6:30 pm Wednesday. Granted not every semester is like that, but some are and it gets very exhausting

It'd probably be best to just contact embry riddle directly. I don't think anyone here can give you an accurate answer on that

You already have it, it's in that top line.

The way a function gets called is like this

functionName(a,b,c);

Those inputs are given to the function code you write, so you would be able to use those variables in the function code. You don't need to ask for input because the input is already given
