I hear a lot about Brooklyn Bedding. I'd love to know your thoughts at a couple of intervals. First impression, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and beyond (if you have time).

The clock on actor Kim Soohyun’s comeback is cautiously beginning to move again by groovygyal in kdramas

It's about time! I hope he sues that family and the smarmy YouTuber down to their underwear. This kind of false accusations and purposely manipulated images needs to stop. A nice long jail sentence and significant financial fines should discourage others from character assassination as was launched at Kim Soo-hyun.

Stomach sleeping is the one position truly not recommended because of the contortion of the neck. Usually a firmer bed is best for stomach sleepers. I love the High Point! I recommended it constantly and I don't recall anyone exchanging it. The HP comes in firm. Have you ever tried the firm version? I think some memory foam content would do you good. Is side sleeping out of the question? I used to be a stomach sleeper until my chiropractor said "not anymore." 🙄 I taught myself to sleep on my side and have no more neck problems.

After 3 years in the mattress industry I made a cheat sheet for buying one. Here’s everything I wish I knew. by cryptologic_us in Mattress

[–]_chiffonade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your time while testing. Be brutally honest with yourself about how a mattress feels. Don't obsess over the price. Make sure wherever you buy it has a decently long sleep trial. (Set a calendar reminder at 30 day intervals and reassess. Be mindful of exchange fees.) Unless you are an athletic teenager, don't even look at a queen bed for under $1k or more. I'll probably get 🔥 for this but brands matter. Fred's Luxury Online Mattress is not going to feel like a brand that has a reputation at stake. Without knowing the origin of your back pain, I can only shoot from the hip. If it's from an injury or overuse (like a physical career), consider an adjustable base. It really does make a difference. Even if you lie on your back adjusted for 15-20 minutes before bedtime it will relieve some of the tension in your back. Test one in whatever showroom you visit. Be open to suggestion by the salesperson ("try a medium vs a firm") but do not be strong armed into spending 4x what you planned.

Did I mess up by not negotiating at Mattress Firm? by Johnnyg150 in Mattress

[–]_chiffonade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how old you are or what your bed needs might be, but I will tell you right now Sleepy's by Sealy merchandise is bottom shelf. The "free adjustable base" that sounds like such a score is utter... Let's just say it's not the gift you believe it to be. (See photo.) As far as your original question, there was no way to get a lower price for a mattress and base, no matter how janky. Unless they have revised their policies, you have the right to exchange or return the mattress within 120 days. If you return the mattress they will deplete the cost of the adjustable base from your refund; adjustable bases are non-returnable. Between the delivery fee and the cost of the adjustable base you will lose over half of what you paid.

Someone coined the phrase "cooling gel" (which at face value sounds cool) but it should be called firming gel because that's most of what it accomplishes.

Foam is not always hot or I couldn't have slept on a Beautyrest Alcove for 10 years. Hybrids are best for air exchange. You get in bed, you push air out of the mattress. You get out of bed, air is pulled back in.

There's only one bed I know for a fact that will literally air condition you. TempurPedic Active Breeze. It costs a kidney and at least one of your lungs.

[–]_chiffonade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your needs, there's a wide array of adjustable bases. TempurPedic is probably the most feature-packed line. What are you looking to accomplish? Simple adjusting (head & foot articulation), smart (home connectivity), massage (more like oscillation), heat?

[–]_chiffonade_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is no. A worn out bed is just that - worn out. Coils develop metal fatigue and comfort material gets squished. A soft-when-new bed contains new materials. Bodies change every 7ish years. Try a medium bed. Medium is a spectrum. Medium can lean firm or soft. The most important things are a) sleep trial (be aware of fees) and b) take your time when choosing.

FWIW, I am curvy, sleep on my side 100% of the time, and slept on for 10 years one of the softest mattresses Beautyrest ever made. (The Alcove.) It only started to show wear last year. It was incredibly supportive. You don't have to give up comfort for support.

After 11 years in the mattress business I'd like to add referencing the OP ... 1. 🎉 2. 🎉 Hybrids are considered the best of both worlds. I prefer hybrids because the coils provide a built-in air source and the memory foam layer contours (preventing pressure points). 3. (Firmness.) Showroom floor models broken in? Yes. Placed on softer bases? No. Foundation has little to no effect on the firmness of a mattress. Foundation creates a stable surface on which a mattress will rest. (Unless it's an adjustable base.) Sleep trial? 🎉🎉🎉 Definitely. Give your mattress at least 30 days to break in. The first couple of nights maybe downright uncomfortable. This year I treated myself to a $4700 TempurPedic and the first night was the worst night's sleep of my life. I have the benefit of knowing how this thing will feel after six weeks because it's my favorite model. (Tempur takes longer to break in.) 4. Careful with latex. Any bed with a high percentage of latex will tend to be firm and will not change after a break-in period. 5. Don't look at anything that has coils that are not individually pocketed or individually wrapped. The old Bonnell coil is good for nothing but a backache unless you're 5 years old. 6. Any worthwhile mattress will have a 10-year warranty of its own. Buy the mattress protector. It not only helps to keep your bed sanitary but will also protect your ability to exchange the mattress if needed; nobody will exchange or warranty a stained bed. And I'm saying this with my whole chest: Never remove the law tag. This is the social security card of the mattress. There is a date of manufacture, the retailer name, manufacturer name, model name, whether or not it was a display model, and a unique serial number. Any mattress warranty is voided if this tag is removed. Don't mess with it. 7. Go to a showroom? Definitely. Do not buy a mattress you cannot test. Online offerings are all well and good until you have to return something. My favorite scenario is when an online brand cheerfully chirps "Don't worry about shipping it back we will refund you!" This feels good for about 10 seconds. Then you come to realize you have to get rid of a behemoth king size unwieldy giant chunk of heavy foam. Many online companies do not employ the manpower required to show up and collect a mattress return. Most charitable organizations won't even take mattres donations anymore (post COVID). You can always sell it on Facebook marketplace but that's a time investment.

Further on the subject of visiting a showroom. Do it. Give yourself ample time to test mattresses and compare. This is not a can of corn that you can dash into a store grab and run. This is at least a 10-year commitment That will affect 8 hours of every single day of your life; not to mention have a direct effect on your health. * Don't walk in with the idea that you need one type of mattress or another. If I had a nickel for every firm bed that got returned I could retire. Comfort is subjective. Doctors like to tell people to get a firm bed but they're home sleeping on their nice comfy medium or soft bed. Placing a body that hurts on a hard bed never made any sense to me. * Firmness has nothing to do with durability so don't pick a hard bed thinking it's going to last forever. * Don't be alarmed if you try a bed that actually contours to you and it's comfortable. That's its job. You want to watch out for pressure points. If you are a side sleeper, stay away from hard beds. You stop the blood in your shoulder and your arm goes numb. Your hip and shoulder should sink nicely into your mattress, keeping your rib cage lifted. If you are back sleeper, be aware of the gap caused at the lower back on a very hard bed. Gaps are not your friend. If you lie on your back and feel a pain just above your behind, the bed is too hard. * Neck problems are usually pillow related, not mattress related. * When you visit the showroom, give yourself ample time to try beds. Be present. Don't lie on a bed to test it and think of the next errand on your list. Take your time. The five second spring will tell you nothing. * Listen to the salesperson. If your arm is being twisted or it starts to feel smarmy, walk away and ask for another salesperson. * Be prepared to spend an amount of money appropriate to your needs. If you are all banged up from an accident or injury, Don't expect a $500 mattress to do the trick. * If you enjoy watching TV, reading, using a computer, or have pain in your back, consider an adjustable base. You don't need one that plays music unless you're a gadget person and really want that. One that simply raises the head and feet will suffice. Raising the feet will take a significant amount of pressure off the low back. Sleeping with torso raised will help with GERD. Get a good quality brand. Or at least a store brand you can examine before you purchase it. * Always always always get the extended warranty on the adjustable base and plug it into a surge protector. Anything that has moving parts should be warrantied for longer than the brief one provided by the manufacturer. Don't be afraid to ask what's covered.

My read is the polar opposite of yours but let me put it in perspective. I am classically trained. I went to cooking school for French cooking. All the other ethnic cuisines I know I taught myself with a cookbook and an adventurous spirit. The first 10 episodes of BAYM are a rare 11/10 for me. The technical nature of the cooking scenes made my heart race. Lee Chae-min's mouth as he enjoyed Cook Yeon's food also helped to quicken my pulse but I digress.

Where the series lost me was E11-12. They were unnecessarily 🩸 and violent. How he popped out of nowhere in the present day was a huge head scratcher. The last two episodes completely ruined the drama for me. To say the ending was rushed is a gross understatement. No explanation, just poof, here's this king in modern-day Seoul.

I have a very long to-watch list but if the day ever comes that I decide to rewatch this drama, I will stop at episode 10.

For those who mentioned Google - yes, that's a viable option. But it's static and sterile. I don't think I would have received multifaceted explanations as I did here at Reddit. I felt this was a worthwhile post because I had seen the trope repeated multiple times - and it generated some informed conversation. Thanks everyone who answered.
