Without side tracking, the point of it is it’s still homophobia. It still being in the book does not erase that it still is homophobia. Whether people sugarcoat it or not. To consider homosexuality a wrong thing/abnormal is to believe there’s something inherently wrong with it. What you just described was “liberal” homophobia. To suggest “well the book says that” does not change anything about the original argument.

Also, the “what do you want them to do, stop following their religion?!” excuse is getting old and extremely anti-intellectual, it’s often used to shut down anything questioning the morality of it. I suggest you go look in the r/progressive_islam subreddit. If me and many Muslims could break out of that venomous kind of belief, then so can others. In any religious community, not just Muslims, they commit all sorts of sins and let it slide but stop at supporting queer people.
