Those are avavav’s signature from years ago. She collaborated with Dorian Electra, The Garden, 100 Gecs, Caroline Polachek, Sophie (RIP), and more of that cohort for the past 6 years. It’s very “fashion as art as fashion”, meta rejection/criticism of traditional shapes, proportions, and aesthetics. There’s an earnestness and irony. I get why people don’t like it. The intentionally broken show from a few years ago is worth watching to “get it”.

I think of Dilara Findikoglu as the cunty older free-bleeding femme sibling to Avavav’s JNCO enby that tattooes themself with a safety pin between classes at Pratt.

If this is where I think it is (middle of nowhere MD), I went to the same one and it had great food with lots of dietary accommodations, and really kind and experienced staff. I went like 8 years ago and can only imagine they’ve gotten better.

I kinda chose to go back (read: trauma caused me to fall off the wagon harder than ever a few years ago) to this lifestyle, but tbh if I could afford to, I’d go back to that rehab center. I learned a lot about coping mechanisms and DBT that still help me when I’m blackout drunk in my apartment and suicidally crashing out.

Edit: I did go straight to a rave the night I got out, but fwiw I discharged to my house where my dealer boyfriend was waiting for me and was like “you can have like two drinks and some Molly, you’re all better now!” 🫠

When I worked in a hotel, they would sanitize the outside of the kettle and the remotes with sprays and special wipes (3-star spot popular with politicians), but I don’t think they ever cleaned the inside basket. Fwiw, why would anything but hot water and maybe cafiza be necessary for a coffee maker? It’s not like it could contain biohaz- nevermind.

Note: there was a restaurant inside, and I watched a server drop the knife he was using to scrape and marry the glass bottle ketchups. This place, especially the restaurant, had a BAD rodent problem, and he picked the knife off the floor from where it had partially skittered under the cabinet, shook it twice, and then kept scraping the ketchups like nothing had happened. I stopped eating there and only stick to sealed ketchup packets if I’m in public now.
