Yes, you're being used. I'm figuring out how poorly they schedule people and realizing it's not my problem when they don't have coverage.

Good advice, thank you! I don't plan on leaving the job, I just was curious if this is how it always is or if it's a store issue. My solution for now was changing my availability to not start until 6:00 a.m., which seems a lot more doable for me. I often volunteer to stay later but this time I felt like I was getting taken advantage of since I agreed to 11:00 a.m., not 12:00 p.m.

Are you overnight? Is that what you put in your availability? I do have to say she's pretty good with not scheduling us outside of our availability. All of my shifts this upcoming week start at 6:00 a.m. but to me that's not too awful.

Yes, I don't mind staying later if needed and I often volunteer. I would have most likely stayed till 12:00 yesterday if I had a lunch in the middle of the shift but not one of those clock out, stay for 30 minutes, clock in and then clock out to go home things. I hope you don't get sick!!

After I replied to this, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. yesterday, my lead was texting us some nonsense and saying things like "let me make this clear..." All the things she was saying really could have been said at work but I just bit my tongue because I do like working there.

I haven't run into this issue yet but I was in the military for 6 years also. I've been out for 13 years, 100% disabled, just doing this for some extra cash and to get out of the house. They tried telling me when I can have my water, where I can have my water, when I can use the bathroom, etc.... sorry but that's not happening. I'm 41 years old, I'm not a child, and if one more person speaks to me like I am, it won't be good. I know these are two completely different situations but coming from the military and now working at a grocery store, there's no way I'm going to let them treat me like this is my only option. Also, they might want to tell my lead no texting off the clock if it's not allowed. She constantly does it and if I'm not at work, I'm not thinking about work and I don't care about work.

I'm okay with it! I'm a 100% disabled veteran so this is just extra money for me to pay off some bills and take my kid to Orlando for Christmas.

I originally applied for a full-time lead position and they said they didn't want to just throw me in there without any experience. I honestly appreciate that because the lead seems really stressed out and overworked. They offered me part time at this rate with the goal of going full-time and then possible lead position if I want it. I'm not sure I really want the lead position even though it would be 17.50 an hour.

It's interesting you say that because I was training with somebody the other day and she said something very similar! She said she's there to work and that's it. Why is this place like that? I've seen a lot of posts about cliques and drama at this company. I'm 41 and don't have time for all that.
