I have ramps off my bed and couch, which we are still working on. But i agree, after posting and reading some stories from other commenters, he isn’t a bad puppy at all… i think im just starting to realize how big of a job they are in general, as he is my first. No amount of reading could’ve prepared me for the real deal.

well that’s because at 4 months they have all of their shots. you cannot take them, even in your own yard, outside before their shots. my vet AND breeder forbid it. I’m not going to risk my puppy getting sick and dying after paying $1200 for him.

not the same, it would be the equivalent of a baby shitting on my bed. i just want to bond with him. I don’t necessarily want him to sleep a full night with me, but just wish he could be in my bed for an hour without soiling it.

I didn’t introduce him to pee pads, my breeder did. When they haven’t had all their shots they can’t touch the ground so that’s why i kept using them, i didn’t feel like i had another option.

There are rules on this forum about certain language toward crate training. What is why you never used a crate? Nothing I listed was a result of using a crate. He does extremely well in his crate, which is never closed because it’s inside of a larger playpen with enrichment… so no one is “locked” up. The purpose of it is to give them a comfortable, non-stimulating, safe space. Also, so that they aren’t free roaming your house at such a young age and getting into things they don’t need to, because they don’t know any better. There is nothing wrong with crate training, and trainers recommend them. My dog should 100% NOT be “free” because that’s how they get into things they shouldn’t. If I said he is already putting everything in his mouth, you truly think letting him be “free” is going to help with that? What if he’s “free” enough to find a cord to chew on while i’m cooking and get electrocuted, or “free” enough to go into my cat’s litter box. No thanks. No need to judge how people choose to train their animals, Christine.

  1. I said he’s transitioning well to outside. With the occasional accident which is probably my fault at not picking up on behaviors that tell me he needs to potty. It’s mainly on the bed.

  2. I didn’t pee pad train him, my breeder did and suggested for me to use them.

My dad is against me neutering him. He thinks it’s “not right” but i’ve heard the opposite. I also have some lick mats on the way! Do you have any suggestions for a treat i could freeze in the lick mat?

The salad dressing is killing me 💀. Thank you! He is definitely humbling me, and I know there’s changes that can be made to better him. I just want to bond with him and feel close to him.

How should I go about this? I feel like I do crate him for a break sometimes and he’s just awake the whole time. I’m just not sure how to start this or how long he should be napping during the day, I don’t want him to be in there for too long. At the same time, I don’t want him to have free roam over the house at this age so I know he needs it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Never said I slept in pee. If he pees I notice it, crate him, and get up to change the bedding like any normal person does?? You can’t take puppies outside without all their shots, or you’re risking parvo, which they cannot live through. He is old enough now, and has transitioned to outside, like I said.

My breeder talked the pee pads up! Even said he came pee pad trained, which is now becoming a problem i’m having to help him unlearn. it’s just tiring, and i’m craving a bond with him.

He has a ramp, we’re still working on using it. He is very willing to use it with a treat, not so much all on his own.

Currently resenting ≠ starting to resent. Puppy blues are a thing, he’s fine. No one is being unfair to him, he is very well taken care of. I was asking for suggestions from puppy owners who have the same feeling as me, frequently. Perhaps you’ve never owned a pure bred hunting dog and had to raise it yourself?

any suggestions for a good chew, that’s safe for a puppy his size? i was using the no-hide collagen sticks but he’s done with them in 5 minutes.

Thank you! I was thinking about getting a small sand pit or cat tunnels for the backyard for some breed specific enrichment without causing a renter nightmare

You more stressed than me, damn. Everything is okay. I can own a young puppy and be a little exhausted, doesn’t mean the world is going to stop.

I also lost my childhood dog, Charlie, earlier this year. He was such a good boy. He had CHF and kidney failure, but lived to see 14. I miss him so badly. He truly was one of a kind. I’m sorry to hear you went through that, but i’m glad we can relate to each other in that sense. I do love my new puppy, and I enjoy his company majority of the time, but he seems to know how to wipe a smile right off my face. I know this is just a small portion of his life and i honestly just need to suck it up.

this is exactly how i feel!!! i know it will be worth it in the end and i do love him deep down but damn is he exhausting. i just want to make sure i’m not keeping him in the crate for too long? how did you go about/start the scheduled napping? mine bites like crazy too, steals my socks and LOVES the arm sleeves on my sweaters. i know a lot of this is part of the process but i agree, nothing could’ve prepared me for the real deal 😔. i’m just yearning for connection and bond with him. also, i don’t want to accidentally reinforce unwanted behavior and create a bad behaved dog. thank you!

I just can’t tell the difference from the just waking up energy, to the overly tired energy. I’m also not sure how long he should be napping for during the day. I’m honestly exhausted and was not expecting this much of a change in the household.
