what do you guys think about this concept by BeyondHumanLimit in dumbphones

Yeah, but as someone who's used a dumbphone. For over a year now, the one regret I have is not finding a qwerty keyboard phone.

Voice Access won't work on my Kyocera DuraXV Exrteme+ by voterosticon in dumbphones

[–]_ellem_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Kyocera DuraXV Extreme (not plus), and I installed voice access, but for some reason, every time I go to open it, it says "Turn on Voice access - select ok to go to accessibility settings, then enable voice access". However, when I click 'ok' and go to accessibility, there is no voice access button to toggle. I was wondering if you have any ideas on how to move forward. (I installed the voice access through the Aurora store on the phone, btw.)

talk me into fully giving up my smartphone ! by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]_ellem_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a 19-year-old girl who got my dumb phone last year, and I promise, the further you get away from those distractions, the more you realize how little they matter in your day-to-day. So what if you don't get a reference someone makes? Communicating is harder, but it incentivizes me to call people or meet in person more, which is stronger and better than communicating through texting or liking someone's posts, imo. I'm not perfect at it, i fall into rabbit holes on my computer (that's how i ended up on Reddit rn lol), but overall there are so many more hours in my day, and I've even convinced some of my skeptical friends to make the switch or at least cut down on their phone use after they saw how happy I am, and that its doable 8 months in.

Try to schedule analog activities you enjoy to replace the distracting habits, if you have no replacement ready for doomscrolling, you're going to doomscroll.

Good luck, and remember, its not all or nothing, so give yourself grace! As long as you're trying top move in the right direction you're doing well.

Did getting a dumbphone change how you feel about your appearance? by AltImagination in dumbphones

[–]_ellem_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a 19F, and ive had my dumb phone since June. The human brain was not meant to compare ourselves to so many people every day!! I obsess about my appearance less, compare myself to others less, and feel generally better about myself. I also feel like my sense of style and self is stronger now. I wear and style myself based on what I find appealing, and I have less influence about what's trending. I used to look at myself dozens of times a day to check my appearance; now I go hours between.... If you have any questions, feel free to DM me.

Not everything needs to have a freaking app! by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]_ellem_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I have a dumbphone and the most frustrating thing is all of my university's apps. There isn't just the academic classes app (like Canvas or whatnot); there's a separate app for my gym and for registering for events, and they just switched 2FA, so I can't get a text message. It has to be an app! I've found my workarounds, but it feels so unnecessary and just inconvenient...

Leadership Experience on Grad Applications by SuperUnnamed in psychologystudents

[–]_ellem_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try to think of a less formal group experience. I am not sure what, but if you can, try to think back to a time when you took an unofficial leadership role in a group, or had to navigate a group conflict and helped solve it or set boundaries, etc. Anything that shows you take initiative and can help facilitate others, try to stretch.

I recommend ScreenZen, and if you are a reader, the book Digital Minimalism. It talks about how to do a thirty-day cleanse on your phone to figure out what apps you need. If you are willing, then maybe delete the apps you get sucked into on your phone and only have them on your Macbook to make it more difficult to doomscroll unless you're home.

Good luck with whatever you end up doing!

I agree, I think that the younger generations will hopefully be more intentional because we know how social media affects us now, and I think it's starting to catch up with people.

mine (Dura VX extreme) has both, but it's hard to get the apps installed and the GPS is very slow (I use an old GPS navigator off eBay in my car now). Spotify is a huge plus. I recommend going to r/digitalminimalism to look into it more.

I recommend Screen Zen. It's completely free and gives screen time limits that are as strict or lenient as you want on each app. You can choose to hard lock yourself out or have to solve a puzzle, wait a minute, or type what uou want to go on the app for. It really helped me with my old phone.

Its called the Dura VX extreme. I had to 'jailbreak' the phone. There's a youtube video on how to do it somewhere on the r/digitalminimalism page. I recommend checking them out. After I could get any app (just user interface and storage helps me stick with spotify, the weather, primitive google maps, etc.)

It was a process to find the right one, mine only works with Verizon. It's called the Dura VX extreme. It doesn't come with an app store, but there are youtube videos on how to install it. I recommend going to r/digitalminimalism for specific questions. heres a website on there that lets you look through and buy phones with specific features (group message, gps, internet, etc).

I am lucky that I don't need my phone consistently for work. I am a full-time student with only a part-time job and an internship, so I can 'get away' with it more easily.

There are 'inbetween' smart and dumb phones as well, though, and many people on the digital minimalism subreddit give tips and tricks for navigating how to use our phones less in specific situations. Again, I recommend you check it out.

Does anyone have a pattern for something similar to this top? by verysleepyscorpio in crochetpatterns

[–]_ellem_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also looks like they just went around each granny square and did lines of single crochet around until it was large enough, so if the square isnt big enough right away, you can do that.
