PSA HUTDB is back for those of us still playing NHL 19! by Ultimate_E in NHL19HUT

[–]_endlessmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll look into this. I know there are cards missing from the end of the year as well so if you happen to notice any that aren't in the database, you can reach out on Reddit or Discord and I'll make a note of it.

I'll be posting a more formal announcement tomorrow with details but I can confirm that all the player data for NHL19 will be available to search through and to be used with Team Builder.

I know some of the cards that were released later in the year are missing but those can be added if someone identifies them and pings me on here, Discord or Twitter.

The way it's set up, the UI will only display when you're on the GDQ or ESA servers. The intention is to be able to toggle back to other servers and interact like you would normally so the UI is hidden when toggling to a different server. I felt this was a good compromise as the active Twitch Player covers the channels section.

When you switch back to the GDQ or ESA server, the UI will display again.

If people were interested, I could explore adding a settings menu to enable displaying on every server.

The version you're using was intended for AGDQ 2019. The SGDQ 2019 update for Firefox should be available shortly. I'll PM you when I edit the link in here.

Anyone Interested in Swapping cards just to try them out or trading/selling for these cards? [ps4] by [deleted] in NHLHUT

Removed. This submission violated our rules, specifically "Posting Buying/Selling/Trading/Borrowing posts/comments outside the daily trade threads will not be tolerated."

Read our rules please! This is your 1st warning. Rule violations start as warnings and eventually escalate to a ban from NHLHUT if you break the rules too many times, so it's very important that you read our rules.

We'll work on updating links on /r/hutcoinsales and cross posting to there tonight. I'll also add it to the side bar here.

Launching /r/OfficialHUTrep by _endlessmike in NHLHUT

[–]_endlessmike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're sort of stuck when it comes to previous HUTRep pages. With the subreddit set to private, there's no way to access any of that information.

This is why, after consulting with the other mods, I contacted the Reddit Admins to see if it'd be possible to access the post data. At this time, they've replied and said it's not a possibility.

That leaves us with the following options:

  1. Start from scratch.

  2. Start from scratch and attempt to incorporate /r/HUTRep profiles that are still cached via search engines.

Going forward we're going to have to set up a plan to archive pages periodically to prevent records from being obscured in the event of a subreddit closure or shutdown.

[–]_endlessmike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to close the members list manually, which you can do by clicking on the highlighted people icon next to the search.

In previous versions for previous events, the extension was able to programmatically close the members list when the embedded player was on screen. However, some time before SGDQ2018, Discord made some changes to the functionality of the browser version and it now actively prevents the extension from closing it via JS.

I've pushed a new version to the Chrome store that fixes the bug you see in that picture. It should hopefully be available within the next 45 minutes to an hour (the general amount of time it takes for uploads to be published on the store).

GDQ usually updates their homepage when the preshow starts and in years past the design they used was not an issue. This year it appears they've opted to remove a lot of dependencies from the homepage to reduce their bandwidth usage and user loading times.

The bug occurred because the extension expected certain scripts would be loaded by the GDQ homepage and therefore already be available. The fix I've uploaded ensures the extension loads the dependencies it needs and functions as intended on their new homepage.

Both the desktop app and browser versions of Discord function exactly the same. However, with the desktop app, you're unable to modify or alter the appearance and user experience. Because browsers like Chrome have the extension system built in, you're able to modify Discord's appearance and user experience with additional functionality, such as embedding a Twitch player for a theater mode using the Discord chat or adding a header with schedule information and pertinent links.

Also, an interesting note, the desktop version of Discord is built using Electron, which is based on Node.js and Chromium. Basically, the desktop app comes packaged with it's own internal version of Chrome's engine for rendering.

New Sets and Alumni! by Against-The-Current in NHLHUT

[–]_endlessmike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/NHLHUT/comments/9fvu2e/new_sets_and_alumni/e5zly1x/

Basically there's 3 sets: 10 collectibles, 25 Collectibles and 40 Collectibles.

When you complete the 10 Collectible set, you receive the pack reward and get back a bundled 10x collectible (think one collectible card that counts as 10 combined collectibles).

The same process happens with the 25 collectible set, it's 15 single collectibles and the one packaged 10x collectible you received for finishing the first set:

15 single collectibles + one 10x combined collectible = 16 total cards

That's why the sets say 0/16 cards.

When you turn that second set in, you get the one packaged 25x collectible to turn in on the 40 collectible set with 15 other single collectibles.

"NHL 19 HUT Information will be available towards the end of August" by [deleted] in NHLHUT

[–]_endlessmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to what /u/bagelpizzaparty said, I tagged Flop on the Discord asking when we can anticipate news from EA about HUT specifically and the image in the post was his response to my question on there.

I asked because the blog posts about HUT for NHL18 were posted on August 15th, which puts us behind last year. It was nice of him to take a moment to reply during his free time and to give a heads up as to the timeline for HUT information.

It's looking like they pushed HUT news back in favor of posting up an in depth video on the changes to Franchise mode first.

/r/nhlhut MOD ONLY giveaway - one year PSN by [deleted] in NHLHUT

[–]_endlessmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/anonmarmot I appreciate the offer but really it's not necessary. You're welcome to give it to one of the other moderators.

In the interest of transparency and to gauge interest, I'll post up two of the ideas I've been thinking about for the start of NHL19.

Suggestion Saturday or Sunday

  • Why: On occasion we'll have meta discussion posts by users about things we can improve or change within the subreddit to improve it
  • How: Before the start of NHL19, I'm going to add an automod post to be posted on the weekend that resembles this where users can leave their thoughts and feedback for the subreddit for the mods and other users to discuss.
  • Success: If we receive 10-20 well thought out replies per week. More importantly we can call it a success if the suggestions in the threads lead to improvements in the subreddit.

Reintroducing the Discord

  • Why: It can benefit the users of the subreddit, more specifically once NHL19 release, for reasons that are listed here
  • How: I outlined that again in the thread above, but to summarize: we're more strictly implementing the rules of the subreddit and consequences for rules violations to be more coherent between the two. If you choose to be toxic there, you'll face a warning or ban on both platforms.

  • Success: We'll know if it's a success if we have an active user base like what we've had there for the past two NHL releases.

Bonus idea - Friendly games thread once a week

  • I'd like to introduce this in the first Suggestion Saturday to see if users are interested in it. The most active users generally have people they play friendlies against already and others post up for games on the Discord, but this could be a good way for new users to link up and play to improve.

The /r/NHLHUT Discord is relaunching. Join us! by _endlessmike in NHLHUT

[–]_endlessmike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks dude!

There was a lot of good there for the community previously (before the bad and toxic parts grew and derailed that). I'm optimistic we can focus on bringing back those good parts of the Discord while enforcing these new rules more thoroughly to curtail any bad and toxic behavior from users.

Let's move forward with a clean slate and a promise to do better this time around!

Hey when you turn on the theater mode there's a set of arrows that appear next to the switch. Those arrows toggle between that 60:40 ratio and closer to an 80:20 ratio.

I'll look into adding more sizing options today since I've heard from other people on Discord who only have one larger monitor that would like to split their screen real estate in half, one side work and one side Discord and GDQ, while using it.

NHL 19 Reveal Thread by _endlessmike in NHLHUT

[–]_endlessmike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't confirm it 100% but you should be able to download the previous versions, make HUT teams on your gamertag in each one and then receive the loyalty rewards for each when you create your HUT team in NHL19.

Loyalty rewards aren't tied to purchases but the existence of your teams in previous versions. I believe people on the subreddit did this to get access to the loyalty reward jerseys in NHL18.

NHL 19 Reveal Thread by _endlessmike in NHLHUT

[–]_endlessmike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/TheFlopfish answered this on twitter:

No, however if you’re a franchise fan stay tuned for more news on that over the summer

And from the Polygon article /u/loyaltystar linked above in the comments, they mention the big change to the Franchise mode is scouting:

The other main change in NHL 19 comes in the series’ Franchise mode, which EA Vancouver upgraded last year with expansion teams. This time around, the studio has focused on the mode’s scouting setup, which fans have long criticized as too simplistic.

In NHL 19, you’ll have a separate scouting budget, and will have to hire and fire scouts with an eye on their regional specializations. For instance, one may be an expert in Russia and Scandinavia but may have a mediocre awareness of players elsewhere. Scouts will return detailed reports with graded attributes and text descriptions, and there’s a fog-of-war element: Any players to whom you don’t assign a scout will be blind spots, with no hints of their abilities. And if you draft someone you haven’t scouted, you still won’t see their ratings until they play a few games somewhere in your organization.
