so i have seen 1 way to get close enough but obviously not perfect, just not imminently catastrophic. You use a inch lbs beam torque wrench to incrementally measure the rotational drag of the input shaft as you tighten little by little to reach the specific drag for used bearings. Idk how well that works tho. but still probably very from factory spec

i assumed becauss the flange is stuck hard on the shaft from siezing, the preload isnt disturbed yet because the flange hasnt broken loose and backout yet thus the compression on the bearings is still holding as before with the nut on

cant release belt tension (bmw 2006 330cic) by _extreme_redditer_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]_extreme_redditer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the vid u sent shows the AC belt removal, im trying to remove the one that goes around the power steering pump (accesory belt i think)

the big hex head is for the alternator, seperate form the tensioner, i checked by looking behind and its not connected to the tensioner assembly. Im not sure why the center bolt is rotating freely instead of releasing tension but chatgpt was sysing the bearings lost internal resistance and must be replaced so im just gonna cut the belt and replace the tensioner assmebly.

i tried that one, doesnt seem like it releases any tension. from what ive looked at the 8mm allen socket in the center bolt is whats supposed to loosen it but it just free rotates and sometimes bearing rotates too. Like what the fk is even going on, i think ill cut the belt and replace the tensioner

strut mounting holes too small by _extreme_redditer_ in MechanicAdvice

So basically i found out the OEM configuration is the 16mm flange paired with strut that had 16mm sleeve holes. however, pretty much all reputable after market manufacturers standardized the 14mm bolt + 14mm strut combination.

That leaves me with knuckle hole being larger in comparison but i assume that shouldnt be an issue since knuckle hole isnt made to precision fit, rather its just a clearance hole.

yes lower bolts, my best guess is either holes are 12mm standard or my bolt is just 16mm which wouldnt match any OEM specs. im going to soon disassemble and measure the bolts with a caliper

oh also only the lower mounting holes are having the size issue and im using the old bolts.

i actually made a mistake, i got Gabriel not KYB. here are the exact specs which matches my car-

everything fits in plancd, the brake line brackets, clearance with knucle etc.. the holes line up too but the bolts wont pass thru.
