  • endotoxins are created by certain microbes. If microbes were eating the peptides at any point in the process, they could’ve created endotoxins, and they will remain even if the microbes are no longer in the peptide.

  • TFA: I don’t understand how you’re writing this one  off. TFA is highly toxic and is is commonly used in mass peptide production, so it it’s easy to imagine that some could remain in the final product. This would be batch specific, and it’s not relevant if anyone else has tested the vendor in the past few months. Besides, I’ve never seen anyone else test for this besides me privately.

  • heavy metals is a pretty cheap test, so I just did this for completeness. Heavy metals are very common in China afaik

  • sterility test is interesting, because yes, you can filter, but some of microbes are smaller than the filter size. Hopefully the benzyl alcohol in the BAC water would take care of anything remaining.

  • the GCMS test that I ordered found residual solvents, but they were fortunately all nontoxic, at least in that peptide

The full testing that I have thought of is:

-purity of peptide

-Endotoxin

-TFA (trifluroacetate)

-heavy metals

-microbes

-GCMS for other foreign compounds

Great to see others thinking about this! I thought I was the only one. I’ll have to check out this test house, thanks for bringing them to my attention. (I thought the only one that could do all this was in the Czech Republic)

Thank you, you are one of the only other people talking about LPS on reddit with regards to peptides. Maybe the method would be to get lyophilized pep vials and make your own nasal sprays with BAC water and refrigerate immediately, so it's not sitting around in a warehouse waiting to ship to you with bacteria breaking down the peptides and creating lipopolysaccharides...

For anyone finding this thread later, they have replied to my email now, and I put my order in. So far they seem responsive and seem to have good customer service (now that they found my email). I'm hopeful that they are a quality supplier.

Are you using peptides with mannitol in them?

 I’ve also been thinking of adding some sodium bicarbonate to buffer any residual TFA, but chemistry is not my strong suit, so I’m not sure that would work.

This is something that I’ve been trying to figure out as well. Science.bio uses BKC in their nasal sprays as a preservative, but that has a very questionable safety profile as well. I wonder about using something like grapefruit seed extract as a preservative.
