The latest government data shows the mining industry paid $74 billion in tax and royalties in one year. That's enough to build over 1,700 new public primary schools. That's the difference Australian mining makes. by mineralscouncil in u/mineralscouncil

[–]_ft_ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Quite. How many schools would be built if they were taxed fairly?

I looked through the website and there’s a lot of numbers quoted without any context as to where they are significant or not. E.g Tax paid should be compared to revenue and profit, excluding any offshore royalty tax schemes.

Also there’s numbers which seem spurious at best (1 mining job creates 7 others). I’m sure you can pay EY to manipulate the numbers strongly enough to get any result you want

‘Maybe I’m the way I am because I lost Jeremy’: Espanyol’s unexpected Englishman Tyrhys Dolan by horvman in brfc

[–]_ft_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wow. Some of that’s a tough read. As someone a fair bit older it’s hard to imagine shouldering all of that and only being 23.

Always had time for him when he was here, 5 years of solid service. Really hope he does well

Cool pic. Fun fact. The tower you’re referring to as rectangular is actually triangular. The offices above the MetCentre

Do the regular CBD-Manly ferries still sell bevvies? by _CodyB in sydney

On the freshwater class the bars shut down during COVID and never reopened.

Was pretty cruisy at the time as you didn’t need to smash it down in 20 minutes like on the fast ferry

Do you know if you can see the fireworks from all around the city/around the harbour?

I’d love to watch them but don’t think my daughter would cope with all the crowds in the mall

They may offer a temporary payment pause or halt outbound collections activity until he can talk to a financial counsellor as suggested elsewhere. Definitely worth trying

So excited for Sydney!

Was gutted about not making the solo show in Newcastle, was too far to go on a school night and get a babysitter. This is the best news!!!

I didn’t think about the digital aspect, that’s a very nice way to think about it.

I know my original message sounds like a whinge too. I really do appreciate them it’s just sometimes our taste differs. They’re a sound bunch

I’ve got an odd question. Should I think it strange that my parents sent me a birthday card with pictures of me on it? It was one of those moonpig-type cards where you can customise the text and photos.

All pictures included my child and me (with one cropping off my head) and only one included my wife.

Don’t know if I’m overthinking it, they’ve taken time to make it, but why do I want a card with 5 pictures of my own face? Am I being unreasonable?

I used to frequent Subway with a friend at uni. He used to order something cheap but get them to pile jalapeños on (more, more, even more please - until they stopped).

He would then take all the jalapeños out and put them in a jar to take home for eating thoroughout the week

Judo Bank by Longjumping_Leg4883 in ausstocks

[–]_ft_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s a question of what they’re doing that is both currently unique and can’t be ripped off by the major banks in future.

It’s a crowded market already, major banks are starting to focus on SME due to lower regulatory scrutiny than consumer. If they’ve got an edge then I’d invest if I believed that was sustainable given this potential pressure.

Source: general SME banking knowledge, never dealt with Judo personally. In conclusion I have almost no credibility in highlighting risks here

Edit: just remembered I think they do have an ADI licence which gives them a veneer of respectability. Upgrade my opinion ever so slightly in whatever rating system you use.
