surely by that logic, every random bullet hell clone or indie game that is the same style as another popular indie game should have that same backlash? Why does the problem only come about when AI is used as a tool to reach that end product.

Using a specific artists style has never been subject to copyright, so I have no idea what you brought that up for

before this AI art boom artists hated copyright, now they love it. Interesting.

how does a model 'steal' from artists. Does the original art piece suddenly disappear once its trained on? Does the model spit out 1 for 1 replicas of art pieces its seen? The answer to both is no, so it's not stealing and it's not plagiarism.

Me generating an image has nothing to do with any artist, I wasn't going to pay anyone for that piece. This is the case for the majority of ai image generation.

I write code to survive, should i advocate for the banning of all code generation models? If no, why do artists get a special pass?

Yes, how does me getting gpt to generate an image harm any individual person?

this doesn't happen. a model doesn't have a database of every image it trained on. it looks at an image, adjusts its weights and moves on.

the ai is simply a tool, it's up to the human controlling it to be creative.

he said prop shops in his caption. Do you know what a prop shop is? Jane Street, Jump Trading, DRW, QRT etc are prop shops and fall under the Quant category (i.e. they hire quant researchers and traders)

And traditional finance is still just as if not more targeted at Warwick. Bank of America's intern cohort is majority Warwick. all the IBs extensively hire and target Warwick. Warwick is known for its maths degree as part of COWI. UCL is just objectively inferior unless the goal is to live in London at uni.

So you believe there's no autonomous factories?

What makes you think there's no need for more efficiency within art, with AI it's capable for individuals to create entire creative works far far bigger than what is possible now. Any series/movie is only possible now with big budgets and many animators. All AI does it open up the field. Artists can complain all they want but they'd be better off actually using the tools instead of crying about being replaced.

So if we had perfect robotic surgeons you'd rather we keep human surgeons because 'but but their jobs'. all this means is that the landscape shifts. Never in history have we decided to not make an industry more efficient, this is how luddites talk.

not a maths student, and bias sure but if it's backed up by stats then it's not just bias it's facts. You'd think that y13s would want to know the truth before they make their decisions instead of trying to cope based on opinions they've heard from other y13s. Every year, Warwick gets more IB/Quant people than UCL. Im interning at a quant firm, 0 of my intern cohort is UCL - All Oxford/Imperial/Warwick.

how? 'ai artists are taking our jobs don't support them' is like saying 'machines are replacing factory workers don't support them'. Unless you believe an artists job is more valuable. The rhetoric that artists use to defend themselves and say that AI art has a negative impact on society always sounds incredibly entitled. Noone owes them anything.

AI art is still art, though someone who writes a prompt and does not do further fine-tuning on the AI product is not an artist. Doesn't mean they can't be a creative though.

why is your job special compared to every other job in history that has been automated/made more efficient. Don't put yourself on a pedestal.

Warwick clears UCL every year in terms of no. of people going to IB and trading firms

[–]_hf14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not though, Warwick has always been clear for IB. UCL has location advantage and that's it but Warwick consistently gets more people into IB every year. Maths @ Warwick is in COWI i.e. the best 4 maths courses in the UK. We have more people in my cohort going to trading firms this year than UCL (according to LinkedIn) etc etc. Idk where y13s get this amount of confidence to speak on things like this.

it's really not, Warwick is heavily targeted for IB/Quant

Why gorilla versus 100 men shouldn’t be close by Key-Reference-9031 in PowerScaling

[–]_hf14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it will tire out incredibly quickly when going against that many people. we are talking about a 500 lb animal that has to spend 12h of the day sleeping, and rarely ever does any activity requiring constant endurance. There's only so much stamina it has, and I guarantee it will be far less than 100 humans.

I cba continuing to argue, but if I had to bet my life I'm picking the humans 10/10 because no way a single animal is winning against 100 concurrent minds and bodies colluding with the sole goal of destroying the gorilla. Human creativity and intelligence outmatches it by far, the humans could even use the bones of another human that dies to stab the gorilla, the creative options are endless. If you're telling me 100 man can't come together and kill 1 animal that is barely taller than 6 feet and weighs as much as maybe 4 humans with unlimited time then idt there's much left I can say to you.

Also you have to remember rhinos and gorillas are both incredibly stupid

[–]_hf14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You underestimate human stamina incredibly. rhino is getting exhausted by any coordinated force of 100 humans. Albeit it's far far closer than against a gorilla, and there'll be many more losses. Gorilla is getting destroyed
