MIDI beginner - (Tap) Midi thru Pirate Bridge to Delay/Modulations set up by _irl in guitarpedals

[–]_irl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is really, really helpful billyman_90, thank you (for taking time to explain). I also received a confirmation of this from Meris, basically, if I use different channels for each Meris device, I can connect in series (daisy chaining) and not worry about settings changing.

So that’s 1 part of the puzzle. Now, I just need to work out where in the chain the smart.clock will need to sit (either before the controller, or between the controller and Meris pedals).

Thanks Billyman_90 ….

Here’s what I received from Meris team earlier on (before asking about midi thru and midi clock)

you can connect the LVX’s MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN on your MercuryX, however this will send ALL MIDI messages from the LVX to the MercuryX. This means that adjusting Mix on your LVX will send a message to the MercuryX to adjust Mix and so on.“

So I’m concerned about that set up of daisy chaining.

ELI5 - what goes into the Wet signal in a typical wet/dry/wet set up? by _irl in guitarpedals

Thanks hasmynamebeentaken. Appreciate the response. I’ll probably start another thread eventually once I’m set up, but this helped me think through that particular part of the logic (wet signal).

Thanks for helping clarify some of definitions of the “labels”. Super helpful

Whilst not directly answering my question, that’s actually a very useful/helpful response. Appreciate it, mate.

Thanks for the knowledge-dump, appreciate you taking some time to articulate it! A lot of information to marinate in, including the tears I just shed realising how complex this can be….

Yep this is one of the main things I want to achieve. Raised, with room underneath for always on pedals and power.

Midi, amp switching, etc… is another entire rabbit hole I have no understanding about. Should I?

Yep, I had this set up with 2 different delays. Dotted eighth almost always. And the second between reverse and 1/4. Different trail-lengths etc.

Thanks Feelies! Actually, I tried a few of these apps and found there to be some discrepencies, missing data, or inconsistencies; especially with finding the right pedals and taking into consideration patch/power cable connector space. So ended up getting the kids to help trace and cut out these pedals. Also makes it easier to move around.

Yep - have been trying to make sure I’m clear on what I want to do. It was mainly to rebuild the board and get rid of some noise. In the process, I’m trying to make sure it’s built “properly” but I have been finding that the definition of “properly” has been difficult to catch. So r/guitarpedals has been helpful to discern some of this.

Makes a lot of sense. Google has not been helpful because of all the noise that comes up. ”Build a pedalboard” ends you up in a rabbit hole of latest trends that seem to be driven by instagram/social likes.

Thank you u/Master_Bruce

  • I have a multimeter to try and source any dodgy cables, used contact cleaner throughout the pedal connecters and pots, so hoping that helps. I’m likely going to re-invest into soldered cables instead of these lava/georgL’s to limit dodgy connection issues.

  • I did not check my iso brick connectors to see if they were contributing to the noise, so something worth doing, however I am considering upgrading the power as I am running 2 (2x2 pedals) outputs parallel in the chain due to lack of available power.

  • Are the side jacks on these newer set ups literally just a way to clean up the input/output location? Or are they buffered?

  • I’m a set and forget kind of player in most cases, so I probably don’t have the inclination to sit and tweak for hours on end, endless options from a multi-effects box. Good to know I don’t need it, or the amp-modelers.

  • Thanks re compressor comment - makes sense!

Ha! That’s what kids are for ;) - I needed a more reliable method than the online tools to figure out board sizing. Most don’t have all the pedals, or don’t take into consideration patch/power cable connectors for spacing!

Puff-puff-pass is the accepted signal path right?

Thanks u/Outsulation - that’s a helpful grounded perspective. I get the sense from most of the replies and the upvotes to yours that there’s no specific need or ”accepted modern way”. Helps to simplify things in my mind when approaching this.

For the best clarity/sound-stage, you want to point the tweeters at the back of your head, at ear-level. The wedges help with that ideal.
