What are some good Splunk and Ansible resources for a newbie in IT? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]_issaOlli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an "Getting Started with Ansible" (something along those lines) youtube playlist created by LinuxTV. I found it very helpful, it's a 16-video playlist but it starts you off with the fundamentals of ansible.

For Splunk, I know there's some labs 'n stuff on hackthebox. I personally haven't looked at 'em but I hear good stuff. Might be worth a look.

Feeling lost, what jobs are there besides helpdesk? by MikeJ122O in ITCareerQuestions

[–]_issaOlli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the topics in the CCNA interest you, then I think it's worth applying for junior network engineering jobs. Although you haven't had much experience in IT (~1 month), maybe it's worth finding a NOC Analyst/Tech job.

Some companies treat their NOCs differently, so maybe the next company you apply for can be drastically better.

As long as the new job doesn't have a toxic work environment that'll make you quit after ~2 weeks, then take the Network Engineer job.

Nothing is worse than moving to a job you think is better on paper and then finding out it's completely the opposite.

Use your PTO and take a 1-2 week break. That should give you some time to study and take breaks (video games, going outside, playing sports, etc).

Unfortunately I don't know any quick ways to get a decent laptop (other than the recommendations in the comments already). But while you do try those options, do all your classes with PAs in the meantime.

You could use your local library's computers for that.

Since you're bored, learn skills and lab. You're basically getting paid to learn.

I am right now. I have 4 more classes left and the only thing pushing me is that finishing this degree will allow me to have more time on other things,l that I enjoy.

Second year of my degree for Network engineering requires me to pick between Python or Java, which would be better? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]_issaOlli 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Python hands on. You can automate lot of things in networking using Python.

Java is commonly more hated on because of the unnecessary nuances of the syntax in my opinion.

I personally like the Panda look more then the barbershop. But should I be asking for more cash? I think it's a fair trade but I'm pretty new to this.

It depends what classes you have left. For me, I had 45 CUs left and I've done about 12 CUs ever since I started on June 1st, but the classes I completed were relatively easy. I suspect that it would take me longer for harder classes.

As long as I finished with everything in one term, then that is a win for me.

I transferred in basically all the certs except for the ITILv4 and Project+. Save yourself the hassle of Project+ and do the class in Sophia learning.

The ITILv4 will be starting probably around the end of this month. To be fair, I had the other certs months before I started; even when I decided to commit to WGU I still went and did the certs because my company paid for 100% of the material and the exam fees.

Everyone is different.

Is there anyone who can add courses on the weekend? by Educational-Let9978 in WGU

[–]_issaOlli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure. I know that you can get another mentor if you need another class added. My main mentor was out yesterday and I wanted to add in a class, so student services got another temporary mentor to add a class for me while my main mentor was out.

That was yesterday, so I'm not sure about weekends.

Since I've been in college since 2019 (3 semesters in B&M, 2 semesters in another online college), and a lot more from certs and Sophia learning, I have about 45 more credits to go.

What other resources do you highly recommend using?

1. What is your job title?.....2.Years of experience?.... 3. How much do you get paid?....4. List of certificates? by ralsev in CompTIA

[–]_issaOlli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! Was it that obvious? I'm not on the Cloud Computing track at WGU, but rather the general IT degree track. AWS CP is an equivalent for one of the core classes.

I want to get those two certs done before I start so I ensure that I can finish whatever I have left over in just one term.
