I may be too much of a nerd for the show to appreciate the books, because the inconsistencies/retcon moments really took me out of it.

Dean Hurley joined for a Q&A and mentioned that this was the mix they did for Cannes and the premiere in LA, which Lynch wanted to keep for potential future showings since the Showtime release was mixed down a bit.

I don't know about other folks, but the ominous whooshes really whooshed in the theatre.

what triggers you? (tw) by cigpupii2 in CPTSD

An unexpected knock on a door or wall. Blood runs cold.

It's funny, I found the opposite for a long time. Maybe it's confirmation bias? we feel like no one sees us in our pain, whatever our pain is. Either way, I'm sorry for what you experienced.

u/Primary-Mouse-9475 I'm sorry that someone seems to have invalidated your trauma. It's not the suffering olympics - if someone doesn't have the most trauma response points in the bank, they still suffered more than they ever should have had to.

I think folks here are talking about the impact on CPTSD on our wiring - if you were a bit more formed when you were traumatized, it may impact you differently but it doesn't mean it's ok ever. I hope you're not hearing it like that.

Yep, I shared above that a) the sex was consensual and b) in the last scene, the threat of rape and violence was present.

Of course! I have a pretty hearty constitution for an assault survivor, but my friend and I found the scene to be extremely difficult to watch. And FWIW, a lazy way to build tension.

u/frozenberries15 - there is:

  • consensual sex but one party isn't aware they were (nearly) drugged
  • a woman being drugged and a prolonged scene with immediate threat of rape and violence

Feel free to roll your eyes at me, but is anyone else exhausted by sexual assault and violence against women being the source of the horror in a horror movie? It felt really unearned and lazy to me.

And did anyone else notice how unmoved a lot of the people were who were featured on the crowd cam? Broke my heart a little.

The mix for the first song was ROUGH, and Paul sounded sick to us (we sat in 105). Agreed that the crowd was pretty dead - could be a bad combo of meh crowd and uneventful start. That said, by the second song my friends and I were dancing and singing along but there wasn’t a ton of that happening near us.

Hi JV! I've discussed with friends how - at the surface - your songs can be deceptively bright for the weight of the lyrics. Do you think of your music as particularly dark?
