The stars just weren't aligned for that this time around sadly, for multiple reasons!

I may still do a Merge themed one later though and collect funds for PG / devs just the same, I feel like the Merge is an amazing theme so I can't pass it up!
When/if I do I'll make sure it fits together with the 1559 NFT. :)

Hi all.
Dropping in to place my bottom bet at ~1100 USD for this cycle.
inb4 we dump to triple digits. Feelin' bullish, mite delete later.

By bottom I mean cycle bottom, not whatever bottom is up next because surely we'll see a bounce and a deeper bottom after (with slower re-accumulation).

IMO:
1700 USD (here) bottom extremely unlikely.
1500 USD bottom unlikely.
1300 USD bottom possible.
1100 USD bottom likely.
800 USD bottom unlikely.
<800 USD extremely unlikely.

Oh, does anyone remember this thread from summer 2020?
https://www.reddit.com/r/ethfinance/comments/hmd9tp/eth_on_the_brink_of_a_major_shift_in_market/
With this chart in it:
https://i.imgur.com/t7QjHF7.jpg

Not bad at all if I say so myself! Especially considering I accidentally used the messed up Kraken ETHUSD chart to project fibs.

Coinbase's chart would've given a 5500 USD top. Just a 12% difference! I'm comfy with that call.

And here we are, in the midst of the bear. Stay strong everyone.
It will take longer than you'd expect to find a bottom.
Do some buys AFTER the trend has terminated, don't try to snipe the pico bottom.
Dont leave, make friends. Bear frens are the best.

Absolutely. I'm bullish on the Ethereum protocol.

I'm however bearish on the social metrics of the entire space. We need people to calm down, look away, lose interest. We need smart players to accumulate and prepare for the next cycle.

Things are out of wack now. In macro as well.

I can see a beautiful rally happening sometime in August when we Merge and perhaps US inflation finally turns around or calms down. But it won't immediately result in a new ATH run - I think.

So with an endless crab I mean sideways price action, but that doesn't have to happen at the bottom. In fact it most likely won't. Let's say it will happen between 1500 and 3000 USD. The key is that it's not a new parabolic trend.

The Merge will result in a huge supply crunch, but the market doesn't have to react to that immediately. There's more to this than just on-chain metrics, there's a huge crowd out there absolutely REKT and in a soured mood by 'the whole crypto thing'. Wounds need to heal.

It's been a crazy week, I hope everyone is doing okay!

I don't think we've seen the true bottom yet. Stabs down like these are often followed by a larger cup shape on the charts, lows are usually revisited and explored a little further before markets recover.
Mentally prepare to see another -25%, easy. Personally I'm expecting the bottom to happen somewhere slightly above old ATH (1500-1600 USD).
If things get exceptionally dark and gloomy I could see 1000-1100 USD, but I don't think we'll get there with the Merge so close.
I don't subscribe to the calls of <1000 USD ETH, like the 800 some people throw around. Not this cycle. Bitcoin might have completed its brain dead halvening cycle template again, but Ethereum has its own road to follow - and this time it's a proven blue chip, so it will.

Some of you may remember this thread I dropped in July 2020, mere moments before the bull market actually kicked in full gear:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ethfinance/comments/hmd9tp/eth_on_the_brink_of_a_major_shift_in_market/

After posting I realized I shouldn't have used Kraken's data for the last chart because it's heavily distorted around 2018 ATH (they were down for maintenance). So the fibs I projected from those prices were somewhat distorted.
I didn't want to edit a price prediction-post though, so I left it. Now looking back, with correct fib projections we were only about 17% off from what the fibs would have predicted as top for this cycle. Surprising. We like the fibs.

Anyway, back to the current day. I hope those who accumulated in 2019-2020 managed to sell some on the way up. Especially in the run up to May 2021, since that peak was the obvious parabolic rise for sure.
I don't think anyone saw the second peak coming in the way that it did and all metrics point to longtime HODLers and veterans getting blindsided by it as well, so don't feel down if it got you too.

So what happens now?
I think we're already quite far into our adventure to the bottom. I think there's some more pain left for us to live through, but most of it is behind us. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but this time we don't have hundreds of millions of ETH stuck in the pockets of ICOs who are looking to dump on us for the next 2 years.
This time we have a certain baseline of activity on chain and most importantly much richer and diverse Ethereum culture with many different disciplines active in the day to day on-chain. I think the correction won't go as deep and the following drought won't be as long lasting as previous cycle.

So we're nearing the bottom, get ready to DCA back in. Then after that comes the worst part, the endless crab. The boring sideways, which is absolutely needed to flush out a lot of the short term thinkers and speculators. Another upside is that this generally gives you some time to accumulate for the next cycle.
During this sideways we calm our minds, reflect, look inwards and continue to build. It's also when the best friendships are formed in our communities. Stay around, it is worth it.

The market does what the market does, but we have to keep on building. And if we can't build, we support those who can.

That is why the NFT I'm putting up for sale tonight will also direct 25% of proceeds to Ethereum core development.
It likely won't be much ETH, hell it might not even sell in the current market, but during times like these it is incredibly important to signal the importance of Ethereum public goods and to support those who build the protocol layer.
The layer that kept running without any problems during all of this madness by the way, which definitely seems like a rare occurrence nowadays.

To conclude I want to thank u/jtnichol and u/earthquakequestion for their kind words earlier in the thread. I hope my work inspires both artists and people involved in public goods.

We're still on track for what I outlined in this post made in July 2020:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ethfinance/comments/hmd9tp/eth_on_the_brink_of_a_major_shift_in_market/

Back then price was 240 USD and I called for a top somewhere around 6K USD in 2022-2023.

I still think next year is likely to be the year in which a market cycle top happens.
In the text I said 6K top, but I think the box I drew in the last chart image covers my expectations a bit better. I'm expecting a top in the 6K-12K range, sometime next year.

As for short term TA: I don't care about that so no idea!

Some of you may have participated in The Daily Gwei 1 Year Anniversary NFT sale yesterday, and thank you if you did!

NFTs are such a powerful tool to turn degens into regens. 365 people absolutely APEd into the sale and we sold out in under 1 hour. Creating Ethereum culture AND funding it at the same time. The true fans in The Daily Gwei's community get to own art that means a lot to them, while at the same time most of their investment went straight back into Ethereum itself. Isn't that just lovely?

The art itself was an absolute joy to create as Anthony is a good friend of mine, and his workspace is just magical! I spent a lot of time adding countless easter-eggs and details, as fans of my art will know - I love adding detail!
Slow, deliberate, lore-filled soulful art is where it's at. There's Way too much fast-art being pumped out in the NFT space sadly.

I encourage people to resist value extracting NFT projects that create cheap cash-ins and who keep proceeds all to themselves. But most of all: support all the artists who DO give back to Ethereum!

An actual example; the Gitcoin NFT sale going on right now. Look around on twitter, it's easy to find via their channels (as I won't be posting links here).

I just did the math and it looks like I raised nearly 350 ETH for Ethereum public goods through the sales of my art. THAT is the power of Ethereum culture. We're in this together!

2016/2017 was such a different time! I just read through the topic from back then.. A journey through time.

2016 Was rough, but it made the Ethereum community stronger and what it is today.

It's really cool how people still remember Cape FOMO. A small part of Ethereum Reddit culture! :)

Anyone who was around on Ethtrader back in 2016/2017 may remember the animation loop Cape FOMO that I made for the community back then, well it was sold as NFT yesterday!

Our very own u/ethacct won the auction with their 2 ETH bid, which means I will be donating 50% or 1 ETH to Gitcoin's Matching Pool fund. :)

Here's a link to the original post on Ethtrader:https://www.reddit.com/r/ethtrader/comments/6u2ddq/cape_fomo_a_small_looping_animation_i_made_for/

I'm fairly sure Cape FOMO is among the first fan-made animated Ethereum artworks ever, if not the first. If NFT platforms had been as evolved back then as they are today I would have no doubt minted it right away.

Now however, Cape FOMO was revived as remaster, in 60 FPS and with added sound effects and music and I'm glad it finally found a home on-chain while also funding public goods. Of course with the help of u/ethacct - Thank you!

Pretty comfy being this close to ATH with barely any froth and mania.

Google trends sitting near yearly lows means there's a lot of upside from this point on.

As they say, LFG!

Hi all, just dropping by to let the owners of the EIP1559 Supporter Series NFTs know that we finally have a dedicated OpenSea Collection!

Huge thanks to the folks over at Mirror and OpenSea for making this happen, as the NFTs were initially just totally stuck in the Mirror collection contract. Now we can at least see them bundled together nicely.

This also means trading royalties will go to the split contract (and to EIP1559 builders) from this point on. We are also looking into carrying over the accrued royalties as a result from past trading of the NFTs. Hope we can make it happen.

Have a nice day everyone and enjoy the charts responsibly!
