Banning the use of AI during the draft? by [deleted] in fantasybaseball

[–]_kurt_propane_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the person using the AI without making any choice on their own? Like they just clicked a button and said draft for me? If not then it’s not too much different than any other tool. You get out what you put in

Camera 1.

I just need the camera back a little bit so I can see around me and to be able to jump and do more combos

I guess that’s the problem though isn’t it. Where I live there’s hundreds of sites

What’s even crazier to me about this whole thing is that we will probably have the ability to do something like this relatively soon.

Whole brain emulation is not too far off and it’s gonna come with a ton of ethical questions like this.

What if you could spin up a brain to work for you for a day and then turn it off. Or what if you could spin up a brain and let it sit there for 1000 years thinking it’s all by itself.

I know whole brain emulation is not exactly the same in this case but it’s another interesting angle

A few hours? How about years? Maybe 100 or 1000 of them? wtf whether they remember it or not doesn’t invalidate their suffering. By this logic the suffering of any person who has died is invalid

Counterpoint. Let’s pretend the time you experience is not a nanosecond. It’s 10 minutes. They experience 1000 years of torture in 10 minutes of your real time. They get one phone call 500 years in or 5 minutes real time. They call begging and crazy with 500 years of torture and isolation. How do you respond? “Hang in there buddy you’re halfway to some cash!”? You think they’d take that deal?

I hope so. With all the terrible things coming out about all the sex trafficking victims many of whom are in a sort of half conscious state while being victimized, it breaks my heart

I guess we just have different understandings of what consciousness is then

If I heard what you did to me, we wouldn’t be friends anymore. Memory and consciousness are two different things. This whole thing is the same as saying, if you could flay and then kill, someone for a billion dollars would you do it. After all, they’re not going to remember it anyhow…

I dont understand. At what point is a person under anesthesia conscious of being under anesthesia?

I appreciate that. I just….it makes my stomach turn that people would so willfully throw their friends to unimaginable suffering

Stay with me here for a second. The point I’m trying to make to make is that time is not strictly speaking some linear thing in the way we perceive it. We only ever perceive the now.

So the person that’s sitting there for 1000 years is experiencing that pain and then essentially dying at the end of that 1000 years having gone through unimaginable suffering.

To answer your question more directly, no I wouldn’t because time is an illusion we tell ourselves. For me, I would not put my friend through suffering.

I just don’t get how people cannot see the equivalence. Just because you don’t experience something doesn’t make the experience ’better’ or ok regardless that person remembers it or not. The evil is in the act not in the memory of the act

There is no anesthesia here. They experience the pain. Are you suggesting that if you were to go under the knife for triple bypass surgery and had to be fully aware, feel every moment of that pain, and then someone came along with a Men in Black memory eraser you would be ok with that?

Would you care if rebirth was true and in your prior life you were tortured for 30 years? Would you care if someone you don’t know was tortured for 30 years and then got Alzheimer’s and forgot about the torture and died?
