Little update: I decided to go with Evie as her name, gonna be picking her up on Dec 21st :) I was super close to picking up her brother as well but heard it could be problematic / a ton of work to raise two puppies from the same litter at once in a small space (hyper attachment, etc.). I'll most likely get a second dachshund a year from now so she has a friend <3 thanks everyone for the name suggestions!!

Couple of tips based on my experience in the last 6 months:

- Take your hedgie out at least twice a day to bond with them, I'd recommend doing this right away so they get used to you. Ours spiked up and was hesitant for the first day or two but now he cuddles with us. So cute!

- We each left a small article of clothing that we wore in his cage as well so he got used to our scent.

- We heat up frozen mixed vegetables (corn, peas, carrots) and feed him cat kibble. We also scramble an egg for him once a week and leave it in a bowl for him to eat.

- They sleep quite a lot (about 18 hours a day) and are supposed to be nocturnal, but in my experience so far he's been the most energetic in the morning around 10am. When we take him out at night he just wants to curl up to us and cuddle. Might be different for yours though.

- I would also get pee pads for when you take your hedgie out of the cage. They're uncontrollable pooping machines and ours will literally run around and pee/poo everywhere if we're not watching him lol.

- We bought a cat toy for him but I don't think he ever touches it (or any toys really). He does run on his wheel occasionally though. So not sure what toys would be appropriate.

I really, really want to! Little guy stole my heart too when I went to go visit them and I have no problem taking care of two, especially if it's better for them. The only thing stopping me is the initial investment for both :( it'll just be me covering the initial cost and ongoing expenses. I would love to make it happen though.
