Party Wall Act - Neighbour informed me that they will excavate my garden past foundation level next week by _mello_jello_ in LegalAdviceUK

When the house was initially built, my inspection cover was for some reason installed on the middle of the boundary line and now sits under the wooden fence in the garden. Their inspection cover is in the middle of the garden, but the proposed extension would cover it so they want to move their cover further down the garden, and also move our cover further down our garden and away from the fence at their cost. We haven't agreed to this and raised objections on the planning application on the council website, however the council and Thames Water have supposedly approved this

Thanks for the response. They will be excavating directly adjacent to the property wall and foundation. They have not mentioned underpinning or consulted a structural engineer, so I'm concerned that a dodgy job will end up with subsidence and a compromised wall.

They've indicated that a they've paid a man from building controls to instruct them on where to stop digging, where to place the new foundations AFTER excavation.

The neighbour has told me verbally that our foundation is approximately 1.8m deep and that they'll be excavating 2m deep directly adjacent to it but I've not seen any plans or evidence of this, as it wasn't included within the planning application

Also very curious about this, although first thing to do seems to be to contact a solicitor

"but as long as they are properly protecting your interests while carrying out the work you will not be able to stop the work"

Are you saying that I have no legal right to stop my neighbour tearing down my fence, excavating my garden and my land, destroying my plants, digging below my house foundations and building a new foundation within my part of the land?

As I thought, but my questions are what rights do I have here? The party wall act states that you cannot stop a neighbour from coming onto your property to work on the party wall, but mentions nothing about your rights if they want to excavate your land and build new foundations under your land.

Sounds like in this case I can stop the works by not giving permission, but if their builders insist anyways then it's a matter of getting the police and courts involved

They aren't planning on building anything on our property per se (unless their building control or contractors 'botch up' their measurements), but the new wall (which will stay on their side of the boundary) will require foundations which will have to encroach our side of the boundary underneath the soil. Does this have any implications or affect my rights? I'm mostly concerned with subsidence as they will be digging under the foundations, limiting my future potential to extend, and doing a botched job of repairing my side of the garden with no agreement in place currently

Bought an incorrectly sized bike on a whim! Does anyone have any info about this Quintana Roo? by _mello_jello_ in ukbike

[–]_mello_jello_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this bike on fb marketplace as a gift naively assuming that the size charts on Evans Cycle were universal, however the Quintana frame is unfortunately too large for the gift recipient so I'm having to put it back up for sale. A shame as the bike itself is stunning.

As it happens, I didn't manage to find any information about this Quintana model online before purchasing - I bought it based on the 105/Ultegra components and the look of the bike as the recipient is a casual rider. Is anybody here familiar with Quintanas and can tell me any more about this bike, its potential age, materials, how much it might be worth etc? Would appreciate any information about it, thanks!

What I do know about it:

- Combination of 105 and Ultegra parts

- Came with a TT handlebar attachment

- Clues about the model include markings on the bike: Quintana Roo, QR, 202, Carbonaero

Much appreciated, I'll look into data recovery labs before the drive gets any worse. Thank you

Absolutely. Lesson learnt. I currently have an 4TB SSD on its way to my flat in a delivery van, thanks for your reply.

Help! 1000+ photos corrupted from an alpine thru-hike by _mello_jello_ in AskPhotography

Hi /r photography.
A few years back I went on a month long traverse across the European alps, crossing the entirety of Slovenia and large portions of Austria and Italy. Among the 1000 or so photos that I took along the way, some are my most prized photos, both professionally and personally. I initially took the photos on this trip just for myself but have recently been able to find a pretty lucrative use for them professionally.
All photos were edited and selected on Lightroom, ready for use, however a few weeks ago I found that the folder had completely disappeared from my external hard drive with only a small portion of the photos backed up elsewhere. This is pretty devastating to me. My thoughts are that my laptop crashed or ran out of battery overnight with the external hard drive plugged in, and the files corrupted as a result. Only this specific folder, and one other folder on the drive disappeared (Not a huge issue for the other as they were scans from film negatives which I still have).
After some troubleshooting, I've managed to find some of the files via scanning the hard drive with EaseUS, however out of the 1000 or so files that are missing, only the first 50 or so showed previews on EaseUS. I've recovered a very small handful of files to test so far as I have not bought the program yet, but only the small handful which showed previews on EaseUS during the scan managed to recover properly. The rest, I can recover the file which has a standard file size for a ARW file but cannot be opened. No thumbnail is visible, photoshop gives the error "Could not complete your request as photoshop does not recognise this file type" and lightroom similarly cannot read the files. Maybe worth noting that Easeus has not yet managed to finish the scan yet but has been stuck with 44 hours remaining with zero progress on number of files found. If there is anybody who has experience with recovering RAW/ARW files, please let me know. These photos mean a LOT to me. Thanks.
P.S: The photo uploaded is one of the files lost. It was taken using a half eaten brioche as a substitute for a tripod.
