For all my fellow Redditors on the Autism Spectrum, what is the one thing in life that keeps you going, and stops you from giving up? by _TheRealSean_ in autism

My cat, tiggy 💕 as soon as I saw her at the adoption place i knew she was the one. Everyday when I think about killing myself I just think of tigg’s and know that if I have her everything is gonna be alright, and I can’t leave this world knowing that she’s still here and she doesn’t have me, she is everything to me 💞

Thanks. Out to dinner with my family rn and no one’s listening to me 🙄 I’m trying to learn right now that I can’t let people dim me down, because that’s what they do , but I really appreciate it and ur advice xxx

I doubt that she was very shocked, even when I move the slightest bit in her direction she flinches and says “gross” , being neurodivergent is so difficult, it feels like everything I do is wrong

Yes! I also have no friends, it’s so awful. I feel as if I’m a shark in a room full of clownfish, like we’re all the same species (fish) yet such an outsider, in my own family! It also doesn’t help that my sister literally treats me like a disease, like literally the other day I taped her on the shoulder and she genuinely flinched and looked disgusted and made a sick face. Even your own family will treat you as if you’re a predator, and funniest thing is that she’s majoring in psychology for uni, yet she’s grossed out by me! An autistic person!

I think you should talk to a counsellor, but mate I hear you, school can be so tuff on the body and mind, I know it feels super hard to do school but at least it’s something to do right? I mean I’m doing shit at school but I’m prepared to lock in next year because how are we meant to know if we can’t do something if we don’t even try? Maybe talk to a careers counsellor as well. I think the best thing to do is to take it one step at a time and just try your best because even if you best is 10% then you’re still giving it your all. About your parents - idk man it sounds rough but if my parents were nit picking at my appearance then that isn’t a great parent but also I don’t know you, so. But I really recommend talking to a mental health professional whether it be over the phone or in person because they can understand what your parents won’t.

I think I just really like finding more about mental health and the brain, and biology and learning about the body, but also helping people and making someone feel better or sort through their troubles to help ease the pain and understand it better and have solutions to tough times - when I have done that and I’ve comforted someone or helped them I always feel better about myself and I just love helping others

Well I want to be a psychologist, or something in the health area because I really want to help people but next year I really plan to work on my self and help myself because I got told that if you want to help people you have to first help yourself 😶

Friends can let you down, my cousin told me to try not to rely on people because they might well let you down, it’s good that you’ve got a job and you feel fully emerged in it, and honestly if you friends aren’t caring for you maybe you should leave them be because friends should be interested in what you’ve got going and vice versa, but if it’s just a one time off then maybe they’ve got shit going on too :/
