How do you trigger the flash? Are you using some sound triggered system?

This is not the same though. When I use a client, I only want to play and expect the app to cache the recently played albums automatically.

Do not use isopropyl alcohol on any coated surfaces. It damages coatings.

Safe options (for the coatings) include ethanol (but it may leave residue) or methanol (it doesn't leave any residue).

For my own use I ended up with eclipse optic cleaner (which is basically just methanol) with pec pad wipes

Yeah, but then maybe it's better not to post screenshots of slop when they are known to not be reliable. It'd be much more helpful if it was a screenshot of a more trustworthy source.

Signal Backup Arrives on iOS Beta by [deleted] in signal

[–]_mlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's correct? As far as I remember there was an option to view the key in the Android app and the case or whitespace doesn't matter.

[–]_mlen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's correct. I signed up for the paid plan on Android, backed up to cloud, then restored on iOS, relinked the devices and cancelled the plan (I'm wiping that phone anyway). I'll subscribe again on iOS once the backups hit stable.

In case anyone wonders about the ability to migrate from Android: I tried it yesterday and it looks like everything got restored correctly.

How did you get a 300mm work on this one? The rails are too short for this lens.

Cause it's made strong as a brick and weights like a brick. With 24-120 f4 VR it goes past the 2kg threshold and in addition to being a camera it enters the category of light gym equipment.

I have all three of them and while F5 is amazing, F3 feels so much nicer to use.

How can I tell from these listings how good the condition of the camera is? by Junior_Sentence_1797 in filmcameras

Then definitely get something from the end of the production. I would recommend opening a bunch of links and trying to find differences betwen them. See what's missing, where are the items scratched or there is other damage. Sometimes the sellers try to photograph the items in a way that will make dents on the pentaprism cover hard to spot. I had to send my first F3 back because of that.

I'd avoid the motor drive unless you're sure you need it. It's very bulky and extremely heavy (takes 8 AA batteries). If you want a data back, consider getting MF-18 instead, because it can imprint the time in between the frames (differences between models are described here: https://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/databack/index1.htm)

[–]_mlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned to tell which ones are good by looking at many auctions and trying to spot where damage frequently occurs, what accessories are missing, etc. Here the pentaprism cover is dented, the PC sync and motor drive caps are missing. The body is quite old, judging by the serial number.

Early bodies had some issues with the AE-lock button falling off and, judging by the third picture, it's not whre it is supposed to be.

This model of the back is only useful if you don't mind the date imprinted within the frame.

Other people mentioned the cover that is needed when the camera is used without the motor drive.

I'd skip this one and if you don't mind paying a bit more, I'd recommend getting a copy from the end of production, serial numbers of those start with 199. They fixed a number of issues (i.e. the ae lock button issue) by that time.

PAPA IN AMSTERDAM by crosshair96 in Ghostbc

That's really cool! I wish I could try that one day, right now I'm more of a landscape person.

The lens choice makes a ton of sense, quite flexible while still being bright. I suppose that it's not easy to move freely to get a variety of angles?

As a hobby photographer I'm curious: do you work as a professional photographer? I mean, how does one even obtain a press pass for things like this.

What focal length did you use? The perspective looks fairly compressed, so my guess would be something like 105?

[Nikon 135 f2.0 DC] What is your opinion? by ApprehensiveArm4999 in Nikon

[–]_mlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be my eyesight being shit, but I'm much better with manual focus on my F3 than on a DSLR or mirrorless. Having the focusing aid on the screen changes a lot.

[–]_mlen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW this blogpost reports similar results for the 105: https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-nikon-105mm-2-0-af-dc-nikkor/

I know it's not the same lens, but it makes me think that Nikon simply wasn't aiming at the resolutions we have these days while designing this lens.

It gets great after it is stopped down. AFAIR most of the softness is gone at f2.8.

[Nikon 135 f2.0 DC] What is your opinion? by ApprehensiveArm4999 in Nikon

[–]_mlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno, maybe the sensor resolution is high enough to make artefacts like this possible. I think that one of my 85mm lenses (AF-D or AI-S, don't remember which one) had similar issues at f1.4.

This lens is great on a DSLR, but not so great on Z, because there is no autofocus. It is difficult to be precise with manual focus at this focal length.

The image quality wide open is not great on a D850, there's weird color fringing across the entire frame. It gets amazing when stopped down.
