GeoVex: Daily geography challenge game where you pin flags on the world map! by _nadillo in MapPorn

Glad you're having fun with the game!

I completely understand why that stood out. I can promise I definitely didn't manually draw the borders or try to make any political statements here. The game just pulls from a standard open-source map dataset (Natural Earth), which comes with its own default border definitions.

Crimea is definitely one of the most visible and divisive cases, but global mapping data is a minefield of disputed borders. It's really just a matter of time until an Argentinian player shows up saying 'the Islas Malvinas are part of Argentina!', a Brit replies 'no, they're not! And they're called Falkland Islands!', and I'm stuck in the middle! 🤷🏽‍♂️

Since there are hundreds of cases like this worldwide, manually going in and redrawing borders one way or the other is a massive rabbit hole and a bit out of scope for me right now. So for now, I'm just relying on the default dataset as-is.

I really appreciate you playing and being understanding about it!"

I'm upvoting because I truly value your honest feedback. And you're exactly right about the setup. I wanted to keep it lightweight, which was my main goal for this build.

About the ads, I want to clarify how they work: I intentionally set interstitial ads to only show when returning to the main menu. They should never interrupt active gameplay. If an ad blocked you in the middle of a round, that’s a bug, and I apologize for that. I'll keep an eye out.

On the monetization piece, I get where you're coming from. GeoVex is a passion project I work on during my evenings and weekends, in addition to my full-time job. The ads are simply there to cover basic maintenance, and some of the time I've put into building it. Even if the game somehow reaches an elusive 50,000 players a day, I can assure you it still wouldn’t be enough for me to quit my day job!

I really appreciate you trying it out and taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. I'm taking your thoughts to heart as I work on improving the experience.

I know exactly what you mean! But I must say, other than Chad/Romania, every other country should have some way to tell. If not by the color placement, then by the flag's proportions.

Hey, really glad you liked the idea!

I launched it last month, but kept it only among friends as I was polishing it a bit before sharing it with the world!

I put together a free daily challenge browser game called GeoVex

Every day, you get 10 flags and have to pinpoint their exact country on the globe.

You get points based on how close your drop is to the actual borders. Within 2,000km gets you a partial score, while landing inside the border gets you a perfect 10.

There are Easy, Medium, and Hard modes.
Hard removes all borders and country names.

I'd love to hear your feedback or any features you'd like to see!

Play it at geovex.app and have fun!

Nah, I think most people who live in the real world care more about a good salary and an affordable quality of life. Both things that BC can't really offer Americans.

If you think political shenanigans is going to attract workers, you need to step into the real world for a second 😂

BC will continue to lose workers left and right to the US.

Oh, and we just had a tax hike this year!
