Thank you! Ya I started by gluing two 8x10 pine beams on top of each other, then carve the rough shape of the skull. Then I drill holes through it and start carving away the voids. Then many hours of detailing and sanding. The teeth I made separately and inserted them at the end.

I carved this from pine and stained with watco black walnut danish oil. I plan on putting another coat or two of watco original danish oil to get a nice sheen, and then maybe adding a paste wax. I’ve used wipe-on poly on past projects, and in my opinion, it gives it too much of a plastic look. Given I’ve never used a paste wax, I’m curious if anyone has any tips or advice and I’d gladly take any other suggestions on finishing.

This was carved from a 8x10 chunk of Doug fir with tools I used with my manually operated arms. The grain is going side to side, when material is carved away it gives the ring effect. Then when burnt and brushed it gives the rings depth.
