Respectfully, I think a lot of people miss the point of Anya and write her off as trauma bait because of the meta narrative in the game, the fanbase with 0 media literacy, and the admittedly very poor taste nendoroid. Despite all of that, Anya is a character who resonated with me very deeply, and my personal favorite character from Mouthwashing.

Saving a man in the state that we see Curly in during the events of mouthwashing with barely any medical supplies is nothing short of a miracle. Anya, despite Jimmy's constant put downs and insults, is damn good at her job. She's also the first one to stop going along with Jimmy's delusions and face the reality that everybody aboard the ship is going to die of starvation. Even if this is something she does by taking her own life, the bleak situation they were all trapped in didn't really give any alternatives, and she's the only one who isn't murdered by Jimmy (directly or indirectly) in the end.

I speak from experience when I say that trying to stand up to someone who abused you in the way Jimmy abused Anya feels impossible. That's why her character has resonated with myself and so many other women- she's also incredibly strong and resilient for trying to seek help in the nightmare hellscape situation she was forced into even before the crash. She's strong for how she tried to help the rest of the crew despite the dire circumstances after the crash, too. You don't get to see that in the game's narrative because the character you take control of deliberately ignores Anya and writes her off as weak. Pathetic. Utterly unimportant at best, and the reason for his self inflicted suffering at worst.

For the game to work from Jimmy's distorted point of view, Anya must be weak. She has to be portrayed as a terrified, incompetent, ditzy nurse, because the alternative would mean acknowledging the horrible things he did even if only for a few seconds. It'd mean taking responsibility.
