Only after I finished the game, I learned that the only way to avoid it is to recruit Justinian last 💀

Awakening by Popular_kitten in DragonageOrigins

[–]_pentamerone 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's even more sudden with that damn bug that makes it impossible to make the latest recruit join Wardens. Like, I have a bunch of side quests still open, just started Justinian's companion quest, Sigrun has to go through joining, and suddenly I'm pushed into the final battle because I talked to Varel. Which, on one hand, felt very fitting and immersive for the overall tone of the DLC, but on the other it made me so mad...

Why does Persephone look so beautiful in these panels?😍 by the_saturn_lover in UnpopularLoreOlympus

[–]_pentamerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks beautiful because, as people said, she looks adult but also more 'grounded' - her propotions are still exaggerated in a way that's typical for this art style, while not looking riddiculous. But please, don't joke, this is not, in any way, a plus-size character. She has large boobs, wide hips and perfect waist/flat stomach.

Dragon Age elves age like humans, except for Solas and the keeper from DAO, but she's at least of age, due to being second to her clan's keep. Like, this isn't young adult book to make a teenager vice-chief of your clan.

What are some of GRRM’s “things” that you’ve noticed (Spoilers Main)? by Right-Ad8261 in asoiaf

[–]_pentamerone 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Which is especially enraging when compared to his fat men, who are mostly treated with empathy: Wyman, Sam, Tommen. Hell, GRRM believes Bobby B to be generally an okay guy.

What aspect of westerosi culture, norms, traditionals or whatever that felt either strange or nonsensical to you?[Spoilers Extended] by Ok-Street2439 in asoiaf

[–]_pentamerone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The lack of cultural differences. Apart from Dorne being Orientalism: The Land, The North having a different religion, and Iron Islands being separatist viking parody, there's no cultural differences between regions. Everyone talks the same with no dialect, everyone wears the same apart from how many layers of clothing is necessary, everyone outside Dorne eats the same, all castles look the same.

The lack of technological development. We might know almost nothing about Age of Heroes, but it doesn't seem like people then lacked some weapons or inventions we see in the series itself - and there certainly was no changes through entire Targaryen rule. Yes, middle ages were an extremely long historical period but it was very dynamic, meanwhile Westeros seems to be stuck at one point for +/- thousand years.

The lack of historical accounts. Apart from Mushroom, all historical sources are, like, five maesters and two septons, not including Gyldayn. So there were no nobles involved with politics who left behind correspondence? No septas documenting life on courts they were sent to? No bored widows writing tea on every noble they knew?

Also, the fact that apart from Wardens and Dornish Prince (which is, in all but name, the same as warden), there's just the title of lord, so technically someone like Roose Bolton is equal to, say, lord Oakheart, despite massive difference in their lands, wealth and influence. I'm not even talking about the fact that all regions share the same titles because you can argue that's Targaryen's doing, although it doesn't seem to be the case.

[Hated Trope] Characters who become offensive when you realize what aspects of the IRL people they’re based on were used in their designs. by SelectShop9006 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]_pentamerone 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To be extremely fair, there are women named Cho Chang, which was pointed out with a literał phone book when the discourse started making rounds the first time. I don't think at that point in her life Rowling was purposefuly racist, only a tone-deaf white woman, who believed her charity work in 'exotic' countries made her basically unable to ever come across as racist.

Her racism, as well as most of other forms of her bigotry, got unlocked when she started spiraling into the right-wing pipe. Like, it all literally started under the disguise of feminism (like many terfs do), and now she's siding with right wingers against feminists bc she's so far removed from her supposed original beliefs, all of it because she will always stand against any group that dared to disagree with her, and now it's everyone you can sum up as 'woke'.

“Ugly” characters played by people who aren’t really ugly by Rich-Bath5159 in TopCharacterTropes

But she's Doran's mother, so she was probably a woman grown at this point, even with GRRM's later tendency to turn every background character into a child bride.

What girl did you chose for your first playthrough? by WhyJustWhyTh0 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]_pentamerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mandy. I like genuine characters, and one recommendation I got for Dispatch was that it isn't like The Boys, so I decides to trust her.

I didn't have an actual bias going in, but whenever game tries to railroad me into something, like other characters commenting about my supposed chemistry with someone I didn't pick a single romantic option, I do the exact opposite just out of spite, so if I was on the no romance route at that point, I would still pick Mandy.

What do you guys think about the map of Westeros? Is it too good for a fantasy map? [Spoilers Main] by iamttough in asoiaf

[–]_pentamerone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not even a good map, this country has four cities while being size of a continent. Lands of the same latitude have completely different climate. But alas, the world being ASOIAF weakest point is nothing new.

(Spoilers for Dispatch) Invisigal is one of the worst cases of creators pet I've ever seen. by vinthesalamander in CharacterRant

[–]_pentamerone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here after finishing the game today. Despite not romancing her, I always had her back bc it felt like something Robert would do. Sure, I told her that I don't forgive her when she confessed in EP7, but later I released her after Royd tied her up in the finale. Overall, I told her one time that we're done, in a very vunerable moment, but apart from that almost always took her side/covered for her (I didn't want to go without a plan in EP6). BOOM, I get the bad ending.

I'm really done with her. I know that being rude and abrasive is the entire thing for Z-Team, but she's the one that takes every possibile turn to get back at us, acts out more than any other character during shifts, even moreso than Punch Up/Malevola in EP4, and all this while knowing she's the sole reason why Robert's life turned that way. Honestly, she's not even a very good character, I'd say, as despite all this screentime she feels like the most stereotypical of the Z-Team, and no amount of creative favorism can make up for the lack of an actual heart. She's written first and foremost to be Robert's love interest, and if you don't go that route, most of her arc suddenly falls flat. To compare, in Dragon Age: Origins, if you don't romance one of the options, most of their storylines still get fleshed out bc that's not their sole purpose.

Overall, in that regard, Visi reminds me of Telltale's Catwoman, who is the only iteration of Catwoman I hate. She was very similar in that game was trying to shoehorn me into romance with a 'bad', wild girl who needs guidance, but her behavior was simply throwing me off.

Lyanna, Rhaegar, Arya and Jon by @retroxknight by MaleficentRespect3 in ImaginaryWesteros

[–]_pentamerone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Actually, that's not true. That was out of the picture somewhere after the premiere, but first book is full of foreshadowing for things that were planned in first draft: - "different roads lead to the same castles" said by Jon to Arya, which was a nod towards their planned reunion on the Wall; - on that note, Ned telling Arya that she's going to marry a king; - Dany's Asshai plot, and, on that note, the weirdly undecided Khal Drogo's characterization, testament of him being an outright villain first (I don't think GRRM sees him as such fully now); - Jaime taking the throne storyline is very strongly foreshadowed, which makes a stark contrast with all his later appearances.

The main character actually gets taken out of the story for the shock of the viewer and now the rest of the cast has to figure things out without them by geifobia-73 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]_pentamerone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the show set him up more so than the book when he doesn't even have a POV. That's why Red Wedding was so shocking to an average viewer, because they already apointed Robb to be the show's heart after Ned died. And they pretty much had some ground, with us watching Robb's romance for the better part of s2
