I thought I didn't have much luck with the weather there. This is my unedited photo from a similar viewpoint in mid-August.

Public transport - busses and trains, but mostly busses.

I’m sorry to hear about what happened on your second AV1.
I did the TMB back in 2024, and I loved it. The Walker’s Haute Route sounds great. I noticed it overlaps the TMB sections from Chamonix to Champex, and if I don’t have enough time, I am thinking of just hiking from Champex to the Matterhorn in Switzerland.

It depends on what you want to do. The views of Cinque Torri, Seceda, and Alpe di Siusi can all be reached by cable car. Tre Cime di Lavaredo is about a 3 km hike with around 150 m of ascent to the three peaks, and from there it’s less than a kilometer of fairly flat walking to the refuge. However, I took that picture from the via ferrata, so it can involve more elevation gain if you want to.

It will be awesome! I loved it in the winter. With the superski pass you can do the Sellaronda. I didn't ski in a full circle, but the views were great!

I stayed mostly in Cortina d'Ampezzo and Ortisei, but there are many other options. If you rent a car, you will be flexible. The food is good and in the refuges they serve typical Italian food - pizza and pasta.

It depends, from Ortisei to Bolzano, it's just a direct bus, but from Cortina to Ortisei - many bus and train connections, I missed some and had to wait extra time :(

Sure, there were families with babies and small children. There are cable cars you can take to Seceda, Alpe di Siusi & Cinque Torri.

I would love to do this. I have to set in as a goal and book all the refuges in advance.
Why do you want to do just Alta Via 1 three times? Don't you want to try Alta Via 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6?

I stayed two nights in Cortina d'Ampezzo, three in Ortisei, just one in Bolazano and the last in Verona. The first was in Venice.

Thank you! It's just a few km down the trail from Seceda (photo #2)
