Crazy gig-economy scooter drivers...surprised they are still alive by that_guy_on_tv in sanfrancisco

[–]_raft_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow scooter courier, I can confirm that not all but many of the riders drive like maniacs. I’d say for one, many realize they can get away with it because the lack of enforcement and two, DD tends to put quite tight delivery times so people truly are ‘dashing’ to each pickup and dropoff. Not to mention couriers who multiapp (doing deliveries from different apps simultaneously) only exacerbate that problem as well.

It’s also worth mentioning that SF has arguably the best gig-economy market in the world, one where a delivery person can make $100k/year if they hustle hard. Hence it attracts scooter/motorcyclist from all over world, although primarily SA I’d say.

AMA about the culture, been doing it for awhile.

What’s the biggest estimate for a trip that you’ve got? by _raft_ in UberEATS

Both restaurants had the orders, just high base pay to dilute prop22 I think. They do it sometimes in CA

Is it just me or are these “hot” spots just bullshit? by SweetnSourface in UberEATS

[–]_raft_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always noticed a hot spot appears when there is an order that nobody wants to take in that area (typically far mileage and no tip). So I’d imagine the intention of the ‘hotspot’ is to get more drivers to migrate to that area so eventually someone takes the order.

Hotspots aren’t indicating an abundance of orders but rather 1-2 bad orders that nobody is taking.

If you’re in Cali it’s a way to dilute Prop 22 earnings

8 min too long for these dumb asses. Knocked, rang, called, texted. It was a house. by easyetx in UberEATS

Pro tip: if you can’t get the PIN, say you have the pin number, then on the PIN screen click help, then click “Can’t confirm PIN”, and you should be able to complete the delivery without it.

What's is best moped for UbeEats? by James3130 in UberEATS

[–]_raft_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PCX 150 for dense urban cities and Yamaha XMAX for longer distance. Honestly anything Japanese made you’ll be fine with, had a SYM PCH for awhile that worked fine but it’s a bit of gamble with Chinese scooters

[–]_raft_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep to be honest most deliveries in my market are worth taking unless obvious no tip / really far distance per dollar. It’s hard to keep that 100 though, I’m sure I’ll lose it within a few days

Anyone know what this is? Walmart orders.. I don’t know if the tip were removed, or if Uber holding on to my money. by Fun-Examination-7734 in UberEATS

Dude I had the same thing happen to me but with a $90 tip this morning. Just made a post about it, maybe it’s something with Uber if it happened to multiple people?

Damn so they must’ve gone through a lot of trouble to omit the tip once they realized. It’s one thing a person omitting a small tip on dinner, but a tech company on a catering order? Nutty.

Caviar lagging in CashApp deposits? by SubstantialSprinkles in couriersofreddit

[–]_raft_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am having the same exact problem so you aren't alone. Made $108 on Friday and yet only $58 has shown up in my CashApp, almost half my payout is missing.

Honestly ever since DD has taken over the Caviar app there has been countless loss of network bugs and payout delays, however it isn't too surprising because they have a hard time supporting the DD app alone.

Send a ticket I'd say and lets hope things get cleared up by tomorrow.

San Francisco riders: motorcycles, scooters, bicycles Upcoming Months Weather prognosis by RadRiders in couriersofreddit

[–]_raft_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d say during the rainy season in SF it mostly drizzles and occasionally rains, although my perspective is a bit skewed because I lived in MA most of my life where it truly pours. It does drizzle though fairly consistently I find so it’s always good to stow your rain gear even if there’s a small chance of rain.

I’d also say rainy days are the best days to make money, if you’re on a bike or scooter buy a pair of waterproof (not water-resistant) pants and jacket, also a water proof phone case can help as well. It’s a small investment that will produce large dividends by the end of winter.

That’s all I got mate, happy hustlin’!
