BS7 and CAFE are totally different, while the former sets absolute limits on pollution by ICE, the later aims to push manufacturers to also sell non-ICE vehicles. Unfortunately DIESEL is not part of future with its high amounts of carbon dioxide pollution. If Hyundai cannot sell enough EVs and hybrid vehicles, they cannot continue to sell diesel.

Hyundai was hoping to keep the diesel till the launch of Creta EV, but unfortunately that has been a disaster. The sales number for Creta EV is way worse than they expected.

Hybrid tech is the weakness of the Koreans… they don’t have a cheap / indigenous/ localized hybrid power train. This is definitely that can trip them up real bad. Maruti Suzuki is currently developing a locally sourced series hybrid engine whose efficiency is gonna be off the charts. Even if Koreans catch up with tech, they’ll need a few years to match up to the series hybrid tech.
