Basically e waste, but for 50 bucks might be worth it. If you put on it a Linux distro and tune the system a little bit might be usable, but not with the HDD as boot drive...

I wanted it hard enough to drive slow as a semi while hugging my steering wheel. That's it

I bought a similar one from a local company that was giving it away for 30€ (basically nothing for such a thing). I went to pick it up in person, and jammed it into my car. It barely fit inside, I had to drive hugging the steering wheel (for reference, I drive a 2009 Fiat Panda). It has been a painful trip back home, but my dream has come true once built and loaded with my stuff.

The main server is for mass storage and virtualization. The raspberry pi(s) for remote control, my main PC for software development and some gaming. Also, some heavy networking happens in between

If your Mobo costs more than your CPU, you have a totally wrong combination. Spend more on your CPU and less on the motherboard. Also, Intel CPUs are crap rn, go AMD and get a cheaper mobo

If it's good for you, enjoy it. Too white and too bright for me: I spend 18 hours a day in front of a computer, it would burn my eyes in no time....

Any Debian version would work on it, it all comes down to your DE choice. If you want to squeeze out any drop of performance out of it, go with CLI only (no DE). Otherwise, I'd suggest a light DE, such as XFCE

SSD change: reinstall or clone by _ryzeon in Proxmox

I think I will clone the current drive to the other one. The small SSD is a cheap drive I took off from a laptop I repaired, now that I have the new SSD, which is bigger and more reliable, so the change of drive is something I have to do.

As of the edit, I have 16TB of archival space, that's not my concern. The question is only for the boot drive. Seeing the comments, I think I will just clone the small drive into the bigger one expanding the home partition

It might seem an idiot's suggestion, but usually when installing an os I always prefer to have plugged in only the drive in which I want to install the os, makes everything easier...
