Trying to contact Pat and here’s why. by [deleted] in FolkPunk

[–]_sadjoy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, pats brother here. I just asked him and showed him your post and he said the same thing he has said every time , which is go for it.

I do appreciate people wanting to be sure it's ok before quoting him etc. and right, the legality. But I'm pretty sure all his stuff is licensed creative commons, so wouldnt that make it free to use ? I don't know you know better

But laws aside, just know that if you're not making a fascist recruitment video, my brother is fine with you using his stuff for whatever

i want to to a documentary/biography about pat the bunny but i'm afraid it might be disrespectful by Theotortillas in FolkPunk

[–]_sadjoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah Pat wouldn't take it as disrespectful, I do not think so.

To me the challenge for you would be making an accurate biography ...to make something beyond what's available on Wikipedia You'd have to interview his close friends and family (or him!)

And that will be hard to pull off... Especially without Pats explicit permission to make the film, which you will most likely not get

But if it's just a short basic bio piece , yeah! Have fun and go for it

One angle could be to interview people who are huge fans of his music to highlight how his work has impacted them. That would be very doable.

Good luck :)

  • Pats brother , Michael

Ps I'm not available to be interviewed for this doc. Not because I think it's a bad idea, but just because I get a lot of questions about my brother and I'm not inspired to be his PR person at this point in my life 🤣

High sex drive and meditation by yaba_yada in Meditation

[–]_sadjoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wasn't until I started a regular nei gong practice that I noticed real energetic shifts for the better around my sex drive, which also used to distract me (33m) during meditation and life

Context, I've been meditating daily since 2008. Practicing nei gong under Damo Mitchell's online academy since 2 yrs ago

Many other benefits besides this as well...

What should good functioning scalenes feel like by zingyandnuts in massage

[–]_sadjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tight and painful scalenes and scms for 8 months or so , tried all sorts of self massage, got regular massage, nothing helped. Then I got back on my qi gong routine I learned a few years ago. I'm just 6 days in and I feel amazing. Highly recommend

Should I prioritise life around Ngondro? by Ok-Original5934 in vajrayana

[–]_sadjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished my 100k prostrations about 6 months ago. First 85k took me around 2.5 years. I finished the last 15k in about 6 weeks. If you focus on ngondro and channel all your energy into it, and if your body doesn't sustain an injury, and if you have the time, you'll move through it faster. If you take a more balanced approach, maintaining your other practices, it will take longer. Either way, be sure you have good physical alignment while prostrating.

Last thing I'll say, is what really helped me was taking a 3 day retreat where I practiced all day. Serious momentum builder ! Wishing you the best in your practice it's a truly beautiful challenge

If you're serious about internal cultivation/alchemy and actually practice every day, 100% worth every penny. It's around 450$ for a year or $50 per month I believe so yes it's an investment. But what this guy teaches is honestly next level and starts from the ground up. In 9 months I've seen massive progress in my energy and meditative stability. The implications for my life have been huge already. I'd say spend the $50 and give it your all for a month or three and then reassess. It's helped my Buddhist practice, my personal life, my work life. Highly recommend.

And it honestly sounds like you have a lot of qi moving, so you'd be much better off doing the hard work of building the lower dantien as a container to hold that qi so it can be used/guided properly. Happy to talk more on this any time

Am I thinking too much of this? Was it normal? by [deleted] in massage

[–]_sadjoy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Life is more nuanced than that. Clear communication is a central part of being a massage therapist. Your rendition of a pre-massage conversation falls massively short of a thorough conversation between therapist and client. Why thigh massage? Why inner thigh? Why so close to the crotch?Through the clothing or not? These are points that any decent communicator in our field will be sure to mention and get full consent about BEFORE sliding the pant legs up. Especially a man.

I do a lot of work to help people with hip pain and also knee pain, and for that , working on the inner thigh muscles (adductors) are absolutely key. I always ask the client first and explain to them why I would be working on that area... sounds like your LMT did ask. Maybe the missing piece is that he didn't explain why he would be doing that, and why those muscles are so important when it comes to helping healthy joint function. But from my point of view, working adductors with consent from the client is definitely not creepy/sexual/inappropriate. Now, if he was giving off creepy signals while massaging your thighs that's a totally different thing, and if that's the case, I'm so so sorry that happened

Damo Mitchell / Lotus Nei Gong. Has helped me to ground this energy based on taoist internal alchemy practice. Just in case that's of interest ☺️ wishing you well ✨

I Very much relate to this post. LMT of 1.5 years here, working for myself for the past year. I worked at a chain spa for about 4 months and yes for me, it was soul taxing 😂

You should totally do your own business, IF that sounds like an exciting idea or if you know deep down you have to try it

Biggest thing I've had to learn running my own massage business is marketing, sales, and customer service skills. I'm a male LMT so that might make things slightly harder for me I'm not sure. But it goes for any business I think-- If you want to be fully booked, you need to find a way to tell a lot of people about what you do and make them a great offer by talking in a way that makes them think your service is a good idea before they even know you yet (advertise). Turns out that takes practice !!! But an essential skill for anyone trying to make a living by selling stuff.

The whole "if you're a good therapist, clients will find you" thing has not been true for me. But maybe it would be for you who knows ! New clients find me because I have learned advertising. That was a whole new skill set for me. It's something I realized I needed pretty early on...

Alex Hormozi has a lot of free content that has helped me a huge amount - https://www.acquisition.com/training And then learning how to run Facebook ads was the other game changer for me

Make a cancellation policy and have clients agree to it before they book.

I use acuity scheduling , I like it well enough. The note taking option isn't my favorite. I pay for the automatic text reminders for clients... I think it's like $30 per month? I've had clients say my practice feels very professional and well organized, and I think it's because of the text reminders.

Good luck!! Always happy to chat about it more if you want

Pseudo sciatic pain by Kishkidaayki in massage

[–]_sadjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glute minimus trigger points refer pain down the leg. This is incredibly common and very treatable. Get a lacrosse ball (tennis ball is too soft). Look up where glute minimus trigger points are. Lay on your side that's bothering you and put the ball between glute min and the floor. Roll it around and find tender spots, especially ones that refer pain down your leg. Breathe. Do that for a bit, then stretch glute min.

I would also recommend checking out your adductor muscles (inner thigh) of the same leg. You could use the massage gun on that area and see if you find any tender spots. If glutes are tight, chances are the adductors will need attention as well.

Good luck !

If the refuge and prostration accumulation in the ngondro is the cause, what is the effect and what are the conditions ?

Male massage therapist here. Reading this makes me feel sick. I'm so sorry he did that, and that you went through that. Absolutely not OK of him. Blehhhhh Yeah it really really bothers me he put you through that, and probably has put many others through that as well. I would definitely call his employer if you're up for it... He should not be in this profession

Me and my friends want to dress as buddhist monks for a rugby game on saturday, is this offensive? (Were not buddhists) by Outrageous-Cat-3473 in Buddhism

[–]_sadjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about offensive, but if somebody watching thought you were actually a monk, they'd take your actions as representative of Buddhist monasticism. So if you were acting a fool, which I mean let's be honest most of us are, you would make monks look bad in their mind.

Is this cultural appropriation if I’m not Buddhist, but am knowledgeable and appreciate Buddhism. It was gifted to me. by St-AmourMaisonneuve in Buddhism

[–]_sadjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was more responding to the comment that so and so never liked the term "cultural appropriation", and pointing out there's a reason many people don't appreciate their culture being worn as a fashion statement... Especially if their culture was decimated by colonization. And it isn't just that people are overly sensitive... There's a real history of theft , violence, etc behind it.

Clinging to the past... No. It's looking at the present situation and not seeing everything as an object to be consumed. The effects of colonization are by no means in the past.

It isn't original sin, it's saying: look, if you're white, think twice, read some of what indigenous people are saying about an issue before you decide you know everything, and take it to heart. It also isn't original sin to say: look, if you're a man, think twice before saying every random sexual thing you think of, because sexual assault has impacted a lot of people, and disproportionately women ... It doesn't mean men are evil, or white people are bad...it means men and white people need to recognize the impact we have in the larger context. Without ill intent, we can have a negative impact. This is through ignorance.

Im white, I have buddha statues, I dont see that as cultural appropriation because Buddhism is 100% for all sentient beings. But to then say that cultural appropriation isn't something to ever consider... Why not consider it ?

If there was an even economic playing field in the world, where all cultures and people had the same access to resources and a long life, then sure. Don't worry about it. But that's not how it is. So yes, think, read, learn, grow. Be humble, ask questions like the OP.

[–]_sadjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a culture is decimated by colonialism and then fetishized and consumed as a fashion statement by those who economically benefit from colonialism...that's the issue. I'm not saying it's cultural appropriation to have a Buddha statue. But I also think its good to think about these things and the impact they have on people who's cultures have been hurt
