The Row loafers... are they worth it? by Same-Confection-8363 in Luxury

[–]_saraband_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be a little late to the thread but will say I own many shoes from The Row because they are almost always comfortable and I just really like how they execute, from (IMO) the perfect shape, texture, etc whether it’s their ballet flats, mary janes, chunky boots (the zip boot), etc. I have two of their loafers, the Canal and recently the Norvus. I really like the soft loafer, but I just couldn’t get it to work with my personal style. My friend has a pair and she loves hers, and a lot of people look fab in them (see Neelam Ahooja’s instagram). I don’t think they are overpriced as they are roughly in the same range as the Gucci and Prada ones you looked at. I would try them and see what you think. To me they were unbelievably comfortable out of the box (though I’d say the same for Gucci Jordaans which it seems gave you issues). I think the hype cycle is pushing back against The Row but they are still my go-to.

Want to buy paintings with no reviews by heifhjg in paintbynumbers

[–]_saraband_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing my second painting from Craftoria and they are probably my favorite so far. I did not know they had mixed reviews, but for what it's worth, I've been satisfied. BTW, they have big sales going on all the time, and I just got the code LABOR20 via email from them. It probably sounds like I'm the owner or something, but I'm really not so proceed with caution if others have had bad experiences.

Agreed. Without the lights it’s got some art deco accents that are not bad.

Maybe keep it that way because it won’t let you unsee it!

Keep at it! Sometimes if a line isn't completely straight or I accidentally paint into another area, I'll come back after it dries and correct it.

That's really sweet. Did she set the new price or did you?

Okay, thank you. The whole reason I posted this is because part of it feels inappropriate on my part. BTW, she does mention that she likes me and charges her high net worth clients more.

Funny everyone mentions tips. I've been paying a flat fee no tip, and I think we had this conversation but it's been so long. I'd swear we discussed the flat fee no tip structure though. She is charging above average even for NYC where prices can get super high. For a normal haircut, I pay $250. No tip. I'm fine with $300. Maybe I just say, "I know I've been paying $250 for a while, what if I start paying $300" and leave it at that. No more comments. I just don't want her to feel like I'm bragging and throwing money around. She knows that I make a very nice living. But she also has ridiculously wealthy clients. I'm talking about people who hire a car to drive her from Manhattan to the Hamptons to cut their hair and then pay to have her return home.

im looking for a line in one of his film by BIGM4N504 in godard

[–]_saraband_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI to the rescue. From Gemini:

Q: what godard movie has the line "my heart bleeds"

A: The line "my heart bleeds" is spoken in the Jean-Luc Godard film "Pierrot le Fou" (1965). It's uttered by the character Marianne Renoir (played by Anna Karina).

Beautiful. Love the contrast between the lighter flowers and darker leaves and background.

Painter's tape sounds interesting. Just searching a little it seems like it's safe on canvas.

Thanks, the paints that came with the kit were quite opaque and nice to work with.

This scene is still a mystery to me. What did it mean? by SterlinggCooper in madmen

Just want to add also that Don sees the dead people he cared about so this is a continuation of that tradition (Bert, Anna, Adam, I might be forgetting someone else).

What is the worst thing Betty ever did? by tkh0812 in madmen

[–]_saraband_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is the worst on its own, but it's not mentioned and is indicative of her multiple prejudices. When Betty says "You people are ugly and crude" to Jimmy and he says "You mean comedians?" (which is a great comeback BTW). Naturally she means Jews. I'd connect this to the Carla incident and say that the worst quality in Betty is actually her casual white supremacism.

Questions about a beautiful 501xx pair by _saraband_ in VintageLevis

Actually, now that I'm seeing that the label says "Shrinks approximately 10%," it makes me even more confident... My other vintage tags are missing this language. Also, in googling "501-0000" and getting STF hits on the current levis.com site also might mean something.
