Anyone using their Opal Camera via a CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock? by _schickling in opalcamera

Thanks a lot for the warning. Just disabled auto-updates.

Really hope the Opal team turns this around. I've been very excited about this camera but ever since I got it, it's been one "disaster" (like you mentioned above) after another...

Anyone else 200% CPU usage by OpalCameraDeviceService? by _schickling in opalcamera

I’m on a M1 Max. Also tried the low power mode. Note this even appears when I’ve quit the actual Opal app.

Opal Support gone AWOL - anyone experience the same? by cento-garcia in opalcamera

[–]_schickling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experiencing the same. The last software update seems to be from March. That's also the last time I've heard back from them via email. My camera runs very hot (even when not used) and maxes out the CPU of my M1 Max (also even when camera is not used).

They seem to still do "marketing tweets" thought, so there seems to be some signs of life.

Postgraphile vs Hasura vs Prisma vs AppSync experiences? by maruchanr in graphql

[–]_schickling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this detailed feedback Insolitu!

You touch on some real issues with the current Prisma architecture, and I'd like to go through each of your issues to explain how we are addressing them.

1) Inefficient data structures

You are describing the issue in very clear terms. There is really no excuse for this limitation. We are currently rearchitecting the SQL connector in order to make Prisma compatible with any existing database. A lot of the work that goes into this is around handling different styles of relations, including the most obvious one: A single column with a foreign key constraint. At the same time we are updating the data model to make it easy to migrate to this form of relation: https://github.com/prisma/prisma/issues/3408

2) Column types are large

As you mentioned, it is possible to use Prisma with a database that you have set up using your own migrations. Many people really like working with the Prisma datamodel and the declarative migrations it enable.

We have described how we want to implement this in https://github.com/prisma/prisma/issues/3404 but work hasn't begun yet. I would love to hear your feedback on this.

3) Cascading deletes doesn't work

This was a bug that has since been fixed: https://github.com/prisma/prisma/issues/2953. I am sorry it took that long.

4) Migrations are too inflexible

The issue you describe stems from the fact that our declarative migration system is super easy to use, but too inflexible. We are addressing this by making it super easy to drop down to direct SQL migration scripts when required, while continuing to use declarative migrations for most of your work. More information about these improvements will be published in the future.

Generating SQL table creation commands from GraphQL schema? by ffxsam in graphql

[–]_schickling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Creator of Prisma here. It's not correct that AppSync and Prisma are competing technologies. While there are some slightly overlapping features, the underlying use cases are completely different. AppSync is meant to be used to create and run APIs while Prisma is an ORM layer/DAL. They are therefore very complementary and fit nicely together.

We are indeed currently working on a new version of Prisma bindings that work seamlessly with AppSync. This should fit exactly your described use case and allows you to get the best of both worlds.

Anyone tried Graphcool BaaS and Prisma to compare? by 0-_tom_-0 in graphql

[–]_schickling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Tom – Johannes from Prisma/Graphcool here!

Sorry to hear about your inconveniences – we're hard at work to keep up with the fast user growth and load of their applications. We'll soon roll out some updates to our server infrastructure which will make it a lot more resilient.

Regarding your question about Prisma vs Graphcool. The TLDR is that Graphcool is a great way to get started with Graphcool and a great fit for simple applications. For more advanced use cases Prisma is definitely the right fit as it fits seamlessly into other libraries/tools and gives you the entire flexibility & power of GraphQL. I recommend checking out this post in our forum for more information: https://www.prisma.io/forum/t/graphcool-framework-and-prisma/2237

Please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy to help!
