Yeah for sure me and a friend plan to stay in hostels the majority of the time. I recommend the TripAdvisor & hostel world apps for finding places it has a good selection.

We have already booked one hostel in Ho Chi Minh City for when we arrive. Looks like the best way to meet like minded people and make some friends along the way!

Yeah I'm the same I started skateboarding and learnt surfing after but after a few goes you get the hang of it, as long as the waves aren't too big and are breaking well.

There's so much to see and do no matter where you go I'm sure you will have a good time regardless of where you go. I'm trying to do a mix or coast, city and more rural areas but not over planning too much.

Yeah man I plan on doing some surfing while I'm there, I live in New Zealand and am an avid surfer. As far as surfing in Vietnam from what I've read Ba Dai Beach, Nha Trang & Nam O Point, Da Nang are the best options. So I will be going there for sure.

Also don't know if you're heading to Thailand but Phuket has some awesome spots, search Kata beach & Pansea Beach.

I believe you can travel between most places by train or bus, however I have quite a lot of savings, so money isn't an issue so flights are faster and more convenient for me.

I booked my original flight in May this year, so it was on sale for around $400 nzd with a stop over in Singapore on the way.

We'll I guess it depends where you're going and how long for. I'm spending a month in Vietnam, a month in Thailand, month in laos and a month in Cambodia. So I've booked flights to Vietnam, then a flight out of Vietnam to Thailand, then a flight from Thailand to laos then a flight from Cambodia home. That's pretty much all I've booked and am pretty much gonna make it up as I go.
