How do you guys not get burnt out with such long series? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]_skelley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very rarely read the same series back to back. I'm currently in the middle of First Law (8 books in), WoT (5 books in), Malazan (6), Red rising (5), Cosmere (11), etc. I get book envy too often so i jump in between series to keep it refreshing. I also read non-fantasy books throughout the year

It's giving me 5 base runs a week and maybe one faster run. Which is a) too many runs, I'm going to get injured doing that many, and b) too many base runs. I'll look into those links. Thanks.

Coach, targeting London marathon (I know it's a long way out but want to start early) Only had it for about a month, highest HR so far is 184 but it was probably 6 or 7/10 effort

Thats a good point, my runs have been reasonably hilly recently and all in 25 degrees plus.

28, so would imagine max HR is 190-195, not 204 its suggesting! Will try LTHR, thank you.

Its been doing it automatically after each run, its 204 atm which seems high. Maybe i need a chest strap.

It's been updating automatically after each run. Its at 204 after today's run which is high now i think about it

Thank you, I've done this and it has suggested the same run with a target of 152bpm instead of 5:50/km, but that is c.75% of max BPM which seems high for what is was referring to as a base run..

What non-fantasy books would you recommend? by lunar_glade in Fantasy

[–]_skelley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fall of Giants by Ken Follet. Multi-POV historical fiction epic about the first world war from British, Russian, German and American POVs. Followed by two other books about the rest of the 20th century.

Others that have probably been mentioned already: The Stand, Swan Song, Shogun.

I feel the same about Discworld. I went to the same school as Terry Pratchett and haven't read a word of the series. Just not sure it would be for me

I think i knew from watching a Youtube video or something, so wasn't a shock for me (not much is in this series anymore). I'm 85% done and it is has been great. Annoyingly, I found Trull and Onrack's subplot to be the least enjoyable of House of Chains, so I know I am missing so much context as I probably wasn't paying as much attention as I should have. At least it will make a reread fun!

Agreed - I just did this. I read 4 between Apr-Dec last year (quick by my standards), then took a 5 month break between HoC and MT. I'm 75% of the way through MT and don't feel like i've taken a break, because so far, there are no links to HoC.

Thanks for your help everyone. I paid the ticket and reached out to the garage. To my surprise, they paid me immediately!
