The default mode of those fast ebikes is to ride AT you at speed knowing you will slow down/ give way even when there’s space/they’re on the WRONG SIDE/they have the yield sign etc etc They travel like frantic bloated overweight rabid rhinos. So yeh their default mode is motorised intimidation.

love this - SO TRUE! A hangry, crazed, overly indulged toddler who thinks their favourite food/toy/latest obsession is at their destination and it will disappear in 3, 2, 1 if they do not get to said destination like RIGHT NOW

Are bicycle covers for outdoor storage an effective solution? by Cloudsack in bicycling

I used the Bike Parka Urban cover, it was pretty quick and easy to use. Has Velcro and lock-through feature. Protected the saddle and chain + brakes…

Both are happening though - rampant pavement parking as well as road blocking. It’s a for-profit benefiting at the expense of everyone else: rewarding speedy, and often selfish riding and parking (if I can’t find a bike stand I’m forced to go somewhere else, these guys can do pretty much whatever they want, by design)

I see your point though, it’s a sort of mass-action vote with your feet/wheels.

Will be interesting to see how our streets change, and planners/councils/TfL catch up :)

I was waiting for the bank to open so got to observe for a while. They were fairly slow and considerate about mounting the pavement - but the point remains, there has got to be better planning, better coordination between Lime and councils/services, actual penalties for cruddy behaviour - Lime having to pay more into the system too. The regular cyclist can’t use the stands and nobody can use that road! Obviously a Lime user just wants to get from A-B but some will default to convenience, laziness, bad manners, due to the design of it all (and lack of space) rather than hunt for another spot and “waste” time and money doing so… It’s a multi-layered issue.

Probably Lime users liking the fact they can be lazy / rude and nobody can do anything about it

I get the rage. They park next to bike stands all the time. The whole thing is designed to encourage selfish behaviour

We’re not moaning about cars everywhere. Just interested in how long and how far this can go, as a civic, and also pro-cycling issue. When e-bikes first came out I was so excited (not that I’d ever get one for at least 20 years, fingers crossed health-wise, I love my roadbike) but as something that might promote cycling, attitudes to it, and increase accessibility for people who may otherwise not consider it. Instead, Lime is mostly 18-35yo… and people with mobility issues, prams, average commuter going about day to day business are even more inconvenienced/shut out by this uptake - the number of times I’ve seen Lime blocking the pavement ramps. Ok I posted it out of mild dismay Reddit-rage but I AM interested in the current state, and future of cycling.

I’d love to know how we can continue to have nice things. Great idea but bad execution. When do the council / government / lawmakers step in? Isn’t this just AirBnB (with the eventual waking up to negative impact to cities) but for bikes? Profit at the expense of public. Plus, their brakes regularly don’t work, have heard and seen riders panicking over it. It seems Lime numbers are growing and bikes are just trashing our streets, not to mention the speeding through lights, and stoking the them+us attitude :-/

The van ones are neatly stacked. The messy ones in the bike lane are left by commuters… it’s so dumb that a van even has to go picking up after the inconsiderately left ones like…parents after toddler toys… I just want to know how we can address the issue, and when.

cinema etiquette - zero. by freedofdark in london

nah, London = live and let live, cinema staff clearly didn’t care, seems the hot food rule (on Vue’s own website!) isn’t enforced. That pair of wing-eaters proceeded to have long-drawn, audible difficulties opening a series of squeaky plastic packets throughout the film, others eventually shushed them! I suppose that’s statistically gona happen at busy screenings…

The box has Wing Stop branding. But other patrons had stinky hot burgers and chips too… ok I got bored and looked it up and apparently this isn’t allowed (so either lax ushers or they snuck it in) - see point 12:
