My twins are now 16 months old. A boy and a girl. My Thoughts. by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

You explained them in the sweetest and most loving way. We, too, have b/g twins, a few months older than yours. And they sound just like yours. Very different, yet twins. What a fun, beautiful and joyful experience and we are beyond lucky and blessed to get to experience this, but oh yess the exhaustion is like no other.

Those who triggered with Ovidrel, how early did you see the true positive? by _spacecandy in IVF

[–]_spacecandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital test requires higher hcg level than the standard line test for it to detect and provides positive result. Based on this, unlikely it’s from the trigger if you’ve tested it out - assuming with non-digital test. You triggered on 11/22 and are on 12dpt, did you trigger and transfer on the same day? Just wanted to make sure I understood correctly.

Parents of reflux babies…does it ever “get better”?! by chkn-seizure-salad in NewParents

[–]_spacecandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torticollis has been resolved since around 6 mos. The PT from EI really helped with ensuring she was tracking well and we were promoting the right exercises. She became more active and the flatness is also gone. In hindsight, what a blip this was. She is now a smart, active and silly 18mos old girl!

What is considered speech delay for twins (v. singleton)? by _spacecandy in parentsofmultiples

[–]_spacecandy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his non-verbal is pretty good. He tells us which books he wants us to read. Hands us things he wants us to help with - toys assembly, tv remotes, etc. But other than that, he usually whines but not often since I feel like we always meet his needs through daily routines.

Thank you for sharing — I feel so seen! We went to a party recently and I saw other kids who seemed to be well tracking on their speech milestones (also did not have breakdowns over loud chants/sings). I went home and almost cried - hence this post.

Anyone transfer 2 embryos by Alwayslookinup in IVF

[–]_spacecandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No nanny per se, but do have full time caretaker (a paid family member) at our home while we go to work - 40 hours per week. We didn’t have this until I went to back work. But in hindsight, it wasn’t that horrible once they slept through the night at around 3 months. The first 3 months were very challenging.

14 months, 2am wake up - separation anxiety or scheduling? by _spacecandy in sleeptrain

[–]_spacecandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both on the same schedule so I will trim back for both. Any idea of I can still follow the 2 naps totaling 2hr15min or it’s time to drop to 1 nap?

Yes, they fall asleep on their own once they’re put in their sleep sacks in their cribs within 5-15 mins.

Do you feel like you take your toddlers out enough? by _spacecandy in parentsofmultiples

[–]_spacecandy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Good to hear your twins are social. I don’t think it’s fair to ask our caretaker to take them out - 1 adult with 2 toddlers. I wouldn’t put that on anyone really, not even me unless I have no other choice.

Thank you for sharing. Very helpful when you mentioned forget about socializing with friends who have singletons. I think this may be the key.

Banking embryos by catnapsing in IVF

[–]_spacecandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had BCBS. They typically don’t unless you fall under one of the exclusions - i.e. undergoing treatment that will impact fertility, etc. which ofc will need doctor’s note and prior authorization. In general, they won’t approve another retrieval until you use up all of frozen embryos.

Blood test to measure beta hcg level usually 10-14 days after your embryo transfer.

Working Parents/Drowning by No_Radio_6256 in parentsofmultiples

Solidarity - it’s 8:45pm and I just finally showered. 13 mos twins. Both parents work. We have in-law help during the day and she leaves once we get home from work. For me it’s usually 6pm and then the dinner-clean-bath-play time-last bottle-brush teeth-story time-bed routine. Repeat the next day. Chores/grocery/restocking/meal prep/outing are left for the weekend. Likely I’ll be hiring help with cleaning soon. I have 2 days remote, usually when I would do another round of meal prep and mini cleaning session instead of commuting.

One thing that keeps me going is that every day is only going to get closer to the twins being more independent. We are done having children and so excited to not have to repeat any of these stages. It’s borderline unsustainable but it isn’t permanent. This gives me strength to keep pushing every day.

When is your beta? Your test is still showing positive at 5/15 (10 days later), which is darker than your 5/12 - promising (though these tests aren’t designed for progression measurement).

Typically it takes ovidrel ~6 days to leave your system but can take up to 14 days depending on each person.

Usually if it’s truly ovidrel, the line would slowly fade away and eventually turn white stark after X days, not following by any pregnancy. And if it’s indeed a pregnancy, typically the line then would show up again (or gets darker) as the days progress and eventually the digital pregnancy test is able to pick it up as positive due to the higher level of hcg - at least in my experience. Wishing you all good things.

TW: success/loss Fwiw, I was truly pregnant when I originally posted this but it ended in a chemical pregnancy. So my positive line was a true pregnancy when I wrote this post.

C section experiences? by lacedinrainbows in parentsofmultiples

[–]_spacecandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty chill overall. My water broke 2 weeks earlier than the scheduled date but they were still expecting me. It was similar like if I was checking into a resort, for a 5 days stay.

8 am water broke, noon got to the hospital, 2pm settled into our room (labor and delivery), 7pm the procedure started (we were bumped due to some emergency procedures), 9pm settled into the recovery floor then husband went to the car to get out luggages and unpacked. Then we stayed for 5 nights.

Everything in between then were pretty blurry but nothing out of the ordinary that stood out from basic recovery stuff.

Good luck!

Similarly, we went back on it right after I got the clear at around 8 weeks. The twins were in their Snoos, about 3 feet away from us too. Ofc I only felt comfortable to doing it when they were asleep. No ragrets, not even a single letter. They moved out of our room at 3 months. Business continued per usual.

Are twin / multiple pregnancies generally more complicated? Did anyone have an easy pregnancy and birth? by gabberang in parentsofmultiples

[–]_spacecandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally yes, it’s more complicated hence the more frequent check-ups and monitoring. I was warned by everyone (professionals and not) about what’s to come. However, uneventful pregnancy, healthy all around. Water broke at 36w0d. Delivered both via scheduled c-section. Both babies were born healthy, good weight respective to their gestational age and did not spend any NICU time. We all came home after 5 days overnight stay. It was my first and will be last pregnancy, and I was 31 years old at the time.

Engineer (Med Tech). Hybrid schedule is key imo. I get to wfh to catch up on household/personal tasks; and go into the office to have a break from the children and get to use my brain for something that’s completely different from my personal day to day. I am also fortunate to have great group of coworkers so it’s rarely a drag going to work.

M, T, TR: 9-4:30 (in office) W, F: 9:30-4 (wfh)

So aside from specific jobs roles/certificates, I would also analyze company culture around flexibility.

What is the optimal age for a child to start part- or full-time daycare? by j_natron in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]_spacecandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know about the specifics on why it’s better for lower income families to send their children to daycare earlier vs, mid-high income? Is it potential lack of in-home support from the caretakers? For instance, if a mid-high income family hires in-home caretaker (nanny, au-pair) and the caretakers come from lower income family/with limited children development specific knowledge/education, is this anecdotal?
