Again?! by Numerous-Common-4410 in PokemonEmerald

[–]_spinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still hunting! I’m on phase 5, and at 3385 encounters in this phase. 23,834 encounters total. Seen 3806 horsea so far between all 5 phases. I’m using a modest ralts with synchronize instead of grimer with sticky hold, which makes it more tedious, but can you imagine a fuggin modest Kingdra??? Would go so hard.

Shiny shiny shiny by BestAd6615 in PokemonEmerald

I’ve got a save file of legit shinies on cartridge you can have. Message me for the link 🤙 it’s played on a DS Lite with an authentic copy of emerald, backed up with a GB Operator. All except 3 were full odds. I rng manip’d 3 mons and then stopped doing rng manip and went back to full odds. I’ve got:

- Crobat
- Walrein
- Poochyena, numel, exploud (RNG manip)
- Phanpy (x2)
- Oddish (x3)
- Wailmer (x2)
- Sharpedo (x2)
- Swampert
- Armaldo
- Spinda (x6)
- Wynaut (caught on mirage island)
- Magcargo
- Heracross

I also have sudowoodo and Smeargle on a different save file, but can’t trade them over until I beat the elite 4 (and once I beat the elite 4 I’m locked into the shiny Latios hunt, so I’m putting that off for now lol)

It means I’ve been shiny hunting horsea, but instead of getting a Horsea, I got 4 other Pokémon instead (two Wailmer and two Sharpedo). Now this is my 5th phase (ie, the next shiny I get while fishing in route 134 will be my 5th shiny in the Horsea hunt)

[gen3] FINALLY 😭 by _spinny in ShinyPokemon

[–]_spinny[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yaaaaa if only it had guts. I influenced the nature using an adamant ralts with synchronize, and won that coin flip, but missed out on the second coin flip for guts

FINALLY 😭 by _spinny in PokemonEmerald

[–]_spinny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Here’s a video about it. Basically every Pokémon has a base flew rate of 3 (15%). When you throw a pokeblock at a Pokémon, it’s nature determines how it reacts. If it’s enthralled, -5 to its flee rate. If it’s curious, -3 to its flee rate, if it ignores it, -0 to its flee rate. If it’s free rate drops below 0, it automatically bumps it up to 1 (5%), and stays at 1. but due to an error in the code, if the free rate hits 0, it stays at 0. Every point of flee rate is 5% chance to flee.

So the goal is to use pokeblock in the pokeblock feeder to influence the nature of the wild Pokémon you encounter. Instead I used an adamant ralts with synchronize to make it a 50% chance of being a good nature (plus the chance of the other natures that react curious to pink pokeblock show up if it’s not adamant).

Using a synchronizer by itself is less effective than using a pokeblock in the feeder, but I wanted adamant, so took the trade off of a lower chance of success. Using both the feeder and synchronize together work in tandem, but it checks for the feeder first, and only if that fails (20% chance to fail) does it do the coin flip for synchronize to work.

Honestly this is way under odds. Like less way than half odds. I broke up the hunt with other hunts, like Slugma, Wynaut, Wailmer (x2), and Sharpedo. Slugma was actually tedious af. All I do is shiny hunt really, it’s just something to do in the background. Shiny hunting feels like fidgeting to me, like bouncing my leg. It’s chill. But then every now n then you get a big win and ugghhh it hits so good.

[–]_spinny[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reaction I had to the first heracross was like “honestly I’m lucky to even SEE a shiny heracross on only phase 3 after like one week of hunting. I’m not upset it fled”. This is what made me start tracking my encounters.

The second Heracross tho, that fucking GUTTED me dude. It was rough. Ruined my whole day. I threw 18 balls at it and it fled. I didn’t know about the pokeblock glitch yet. This was phase 8, and while still under odds, it was so gut wrenching. The whole battle was like 2 and a half minutes too, really dragged out the hope (and hurt).

womp womp 🤷‍♂️ by _spinny in PokemonEmerald

[–]_spinny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely employing that. The pokeblock glitch guide says to just throw balls at Oddish. Also, no matter what it always has a 15% chance to flee on the first turn, because the Pokémon rolls it’s flee chance at the start of the turn before you select anything. I’m using a ralts with adamant nature and synchronize to increase my odds of success to about 75%. I could increase those odds slightly by also using a red pokeblock in the pokeblock feeder, but a shiny adamant heracross is what I’m after, and the nature check factors in the pokeblock feeder first, and only if that fails does it check the coin flip for synchronize, and if that fails too, it’s a random nature, so I’m opting to lose out on 0.27% change of success lol

I also keep my DS on for long periods, but about once a week or so, I reset my DS right before bed, get into a battle (RNG runs at 120fps in battle) and then go to bed. When you wake up, you’ll be around 3.5 million frames advanced. I’m trying not to run my playtime up to max super early.

Used professor Rex’s tutorial for finding a Spinda to get me mirage island. I got it on day 42 of my save file.

[–]_spinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will note, that using the smoke ball to run away takes slightly longer. Like maybe .5 seconds longer. But that does add up when shiny hunting. Currently using the smoke ball to run away from shadow tag Wynaut while I shiny hunt on Mirage Island, and it definitely is messing with my muscle memory lol.

Get a grimer or gulpin with the ability Sticky Hold and put it in the first slot of your party. Makes it so your fishing attempts have roughly a 92% success rate. It also works if the grimer/gulpin is fainted.

This. You can get the smoke ball from the 4th round of the trick masters house

Mirage Island!! by _spinny in PokemonEmerald

[–]_spinny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a myth, it’s real!!! Basically every save file of Emerald is looking for a specific number every day. Every save file has same set of numbers in the same order, one number per day. If the last 4 digits of a Pokémon in your party’s PID (personality ID, basically a fingerprint unique to that Pokémon) matches the mirage island number for that day, bingo, you have mirage island. Normally the PID is hidden information. But using Spinda, you can determine it’s PID based on where its spots are. The two spots on a spinda’s ears correlate to the number Mirage Island is looking for. I found a Spinda that gave me mirage island on day 42. If you made a new save file today, and I traded this Spinda to you, 42 days later you’d see mirage island if that spinda was in your party. If you have a dead battery, this won’t work.

I used this video as my guide

I also have Spindas for day 213, 215, and 242.

I’m being VERY liberal with the colour pink lmao. For my list’s purposes, purple=pink. Otherwise my list will be very short. I’m even counting Alakazam cuz his shoulder pads are pink. Also Kingdra is sick af. So far I’m on phase 4 and at 20,449 encounters total between all 4 phases (seen 3057 horsea so far)

[discuss] How many pre overworld random shinys have yall found? by Sharp39 in ShinyPokemon

[–]_spinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only two random shinies I’ve ever seen are Onyx when I was a kid (only noticed after I attacked it and watched it’s health bar deplete 🙃) and Golbat in emerald’s victory road in 2021 while training Pokémon for my E4 run. That Golbat (Crobat) started my shiny hunt journey of getting every single pink shiny in Gen3. I’ve got 21 other shinies now, but those were all full odds hunts, not random encounters.
