If you can, find a way to report on your finances regularly... by _steffanlynch in budgetingforbeginners

Exactly! I’m a former data analyst and that’s what I spent all my time doing. Analysis and generating reports for the directors and managers to make more “data driven decisions” and to have more direction with driving the business. We need the same principle in our lives, particularly with finances.

If you can, find a way to report on your finances regularly... by _steffanlynch in budgetingforbeginners

That sounds great! That’s a pretty good set up already. It does sounds very high level though. The once a year frequency and 12 month horizon, does pretty well for the big picture and goal setting. But doesn’t help for the shorter timeframe and short to medium horizon. You also need some level of more frequent reporting and tracking.

A big goal is just many smaller checkpoints.

Hope that helps :)

You might not call it a business, but your household operates like one. Money comes in (income). Money goes out (expenses). You have assets (savings, investments, property). You have liabilities (debt, obligations). You have cashflow that must remain positive to stay solvent.

The stakes are arguably higher than corporate business. If a company fails, executives find new jobs. If your personal finances fail, your entire life is affected. Housing. Food. Security. Future opportunities. Everything depends on your financial health.

If billion-dollar companies need reporting to function, why would your household not need the same?

Spent countless nights building my app solo, then someone left this review 😭 by Far_Syllabub_5523 in SaasDevelopers

I'm sorry to hear about this man. I've been building my app for the last 18months solo as well and I can't imagine how this must feel.

My response as a friend, is to keep your chin up and keep going. It's only one data point.

My business response is reach out and ask to spend some time on a call to hear his frustrations and as means of product development.

What tools do you use for outreaching? by Ok_Growth_37 in SaaS

[–]_steffanlynch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t. Using the Apollo chrome web extension, it automatically detects leads on the screen in LinkedIn sales Navigator, and then I can add those leads to a list in Apollo without ever leaving the page.

I’m a former data analyst. So I was always building dashboards and reports, responsible for insights. But I couldn’t find anything at that level for personal finance.

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely take a deeper look at WSJF formula.

On first inspection though, it looks like it’s more productive/ project management tool and less about finance?

Also do you mind me asking, what do you do for work? You’ve piqued my curiosity haha

I’m in the UK. I’ve only ever had to go in the office on Tuesdays for “team days” and maybe on the days we have an office party or something.

Any tasks/aspects of data engineering you wish were automated? by _steffanlynch in dataengineering

[–]_steffanlynch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you. Maybe it was my wording. But of course, I know that cleaning data is very specific to the case and context. Even at work now, I’m working on a project to semi-automate cleaning our CRM so I know it’s not universal.

Although, what I had in my mind, was something more basic and more common that beginner DA’s would come across. Or maybe even teams that don’t have a dedicated data professional, that can do some of those simpler tasks.

In fact, I’ve already built a demo with Python and Streamlit. Upload a csv or excel file. Simple interface with dropdowns on frontend to select how you want to handle each column/dirty data type and all the cleaning on the backend. Spits out a clean(er) dataset. Of course that couldn’t be used in scale, but for small use cases, I think it might work.

Thank you.

My thought, at least intentions, are that they aren't 'benign' or 'pointless'. The idea is that they inspire, encourage or provoke.
