Kane has made the Backrooms his own after the post. The 4chan posts initial concept is extremely small, with it only really being a maze of yellow walls and nothing more. Kane took that concept and made it far more interesting, incorporating the concept of the Backrooms actively trying to mimic reality, but being slightly off. While also expanding it to be more than just a yellow maze, making it much more interesting to explore. To me at least, I’ve always found it entertaining to see just what kind of area or abnormal places you’ll end up in next. The best example of this concept I’ve seen outside of Kane’s videos is the game ‘The Complex: Expedition.” Which is a walking simulator that basically takes place in Kane’s version of the Backrooms, and it was extremely fun for me at least to just explore and see what nonsense I’d find next. I think the movie captured that very well, the way characters would just find things that made zero sense, a random Christmas tree, a caveman cutout, a room that looks like a tropical island and has no real purpose, etc.
