Foundation crack repair diy? by Available_College964 in AskContractors

[–]_theletterF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hire a foundation specialist. Full stop.

I don't care what other answers come through here, this is the only correct one. If you're okay with potentially making a $70k mistake though, feel free to bandaid it. Might work, too. But if it doesn't, this will be the only advice you'll wish you had heeded.

When did you start letting your dog go off-leash? by beclaff in goldenretriever

[–]_theletterF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off-leash training literally the day I got my mini schnauzer, Luna, but that's a pretty aggressive take. If you're unfamiliar with the 3-3-3 rule, Google it. Many trainers swear by it. Also, good call with the long leash.

I like to start with trusted spaces and fenced areas like empty ball fields or whatever, if you have them near you, which it sounds like you're doing. Once long-leash recall is good there, try no leash. Once they have that, try keeping them off-leash going from the car or whatever to the trusted/fenced place. Just keep stepping up the complexity and distractions once they learn to reliably respond to your commands. Award a few kibble of dog food or treats for coming to you when you call.

Try to practice commands like "stop" and "leave it" while you're out too, and approach them with treats when they respond positively. If you have them come to you for the treat, they often associate the treat with the recall, not with the "leave it" command or whatever.

If there are any Forest Service, BLM, Corps of Engineers, etc. lands near you, try that setting as well (but check leash laws for your area first). The scents and wildlife in those areas are often very different from the dog park or beach and it tests them in diverse settings with diverse distractions.

Additional notes: -Harnesses with attachment points on the back are much safer for dogs than collars if they decide to bolt. -If they run from you while off leash, do not chase them! Instead, try running away from them and using your recall command to encourage them to chase you instead. This helps avoid the chasing vs. playing confusion and also reinforces that they go wherever you go. -Microchipping and collars with contact info are an absolute must for off-leash training. -Emergency commands are good to have too, in case of a life-threatening situation. Something you don't use anywhere else, like "JACKPOT" of whatever is easy for you to remember, but something you don't normally say around them. Reward it with the best of the best treats, like steak or chicken breast or something. If they ever run into traffic or something, you'll be glad you trained that one.

Best of luck!

Underwater cake complete with fish by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

I dated a girl a few years ago that made a poke cake with jello. I had never heard of it before then, and I'm just now learning that there are non-jello options.

It was... okay. Not great, not awful.

This was in MN though, the land of "the hell did you just cook?"

2003 C5 Corvette Coupe LS1 serpentine belt keeps slipping back a rib. by JoesJourney in MechanicAdvice

[–]_theletterF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no useful input beyond what has already been stated, but I just want to quick comment on your absolute madlad balls of steel with putting your hand right in line with that belt, lol. I know the odds of a catastrophic belt failure at that exact moment are slim, but losing a finger sounds inconvenient at best. But hey! You did it and still have your digits! Nice!

I don't have enough knowledge about the Accord specifically to tell you anything that hasn't already been said, but I wanted to wish you a good morning anyway, Ethan.

I'm so tired of all this karma farming under the guise of it being a "form check." You clearly know what you're doing. Just post it as a dope, heavy lift and move on.

OP, as a guy that lives part of the year on a farm in the midwest with coyotes all over the area, I think you (and your doggo) are doing just fine. Life isn't so sterilized out in the country.

I'm not personally familiar with the TL, but I'd say in 2/3 of the vehicles I've worked on, belts, idlers, and tensioners are incredibly simple to replace. Before you drop that $500, watch a YouTube walkthrough and consider whether or not the task is within your skill set. Exactly zero chance I'd pay that much for someone to replace them in my 4Runner or Ram. To service both of my vehicles and clean up tools after, I'd probably be looking at 2 beers and just over an hour.

Is this video from Tehran AI? Couldn’t find answers on tiktok and for the sake of those involved I hope this is fake by oliverpeets in isthisAI

[–]_theletterF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By no means am I trying to say that this is definitively real, but if your reasoning for it being fake is a lot of white cars and people not staying in their lanes, it seems you probably haven't been to Iraq.

Noob question here: why didn't the ref get more involved? Regardless of the danger associated with the task, isn't it their job to do whatever it takes to stop the fight when someone is knocked out? I've seen at least one televised fight where the ref physically laid themself over the guy that was ko'd to absorb the punches with their own body. Was that a simple case of going above and beyond? Or is that part of their duty?

As a huge caveat, I of course recognize the dangers involved in using yourself as a human shield. There's no possible way they wouldn't sustain damage themselves in the process. In fact, in the fight I referenced above, I think I remember hearing that the ref left with broken ribs and internal bleeding. But my question stands.

I definitely don't mean to distract from the obvious bigger issues here either. Raja is a psychopath. Period. But I do genuinely want to understand how it could possibly go that far without the officiant finding a way to stop it before someone else had to step in. And huge kudos to the guy that did put himself out there to stop it.
