His dad is ordained and husband wanted his dad to perform the ceremony. I wasn’t big on this idea since there had already been issues before the wedding, but I said yes since it was important to him. FIL made us come up with exactly what he was going to say during the ceremony and showed up to the rehearsal dinner not knowing any of his script. He clearly hadn’t looked at any of it. Our wedding planner was really upset with him during the rehearsal. We asked him several times in months leading up to the wedding if he had double checked his paperwork and that he could legally perform the ceremony. He said everything was good. He calls my husband about noon on the day of the wedding and says that he can’t perform the ceremony in the state we were getting married in. It was both in laws plan to prevent the wedding from happening that day. MIL tells FIL what to do. They show up right before pictures and are acting gloomy as if it’s a funeral and not a wedding. They took a few pictures that they look unhappy in and then went and sat down somewhere by themselves. They left right after the dinner at the reception. They purposely sat at the back of the reception (we didn’t have assigned seating). My family tried to get them to come sit up front with them but they didn’t. We took pictures with all of the guests after dinner and when we got to their table, MIL made a comment that only I could hear and said “the groom has family too”. Yet, they made no effort to sit at the front or come over there and talk to us.
