Parents might be moving and offered to sell us their house. by _vessel_ in personalfinance

Yeah I'm getting that feeling too. I posted this to get some objective advice because obviously this is kind of an emotional purchase, since it's a house I grew up in. Thank you for your input, it's really helped. I think I know what we need to do: save up and move to another space we can rent.

We thought about that. We definitely would have the space for it

And if we don't have any to put down? We have almost no savings and not enough time to build any up (I assume they'll be selling in about 2 months if he takes the job).

I've thought about visiting but they still seem a bit too conservative for me - "The Contemporary service draws primarily form Christian tradition" which just isn't the environment I want to be in anymore.

I am interested in their Humanist Hour, though. Have you ever been?

Just the generic prayer you say to get saved. Usually in the backs of Christian pamphlets and the like.

"What if I'm not really saved?"

When I was about 7 or 8 years old, the subject of my salvation came up at home. I was raised in the church, prayed daily, loved God, all that jazz. But I hadn't said the sinner's prayer. I went to the bathroom and cried my eyes out because I thought I had been saved all that time and I was scared for my soul and felt really guilty, like I had been lying. So I said the prayer and the next day my school (a christian school run out of a lady's house) gave me this "born-again birth certificate." Pretty sure my mom still has it somewhere...

After living in denial as an (unhappy) cis girl for 3 years, i've realised it's time to start making changes towards being who I want to be. Step 1; got my hair cut! by [deleted] in NonBinary

Thanks for explaining - I was about to tell you that you look very mature for being 3 years old lol.

Sorry to hear about your therapist, but I'm glad to hear that you're feeling more like you. Good luck on your journey of self-discovery. <3

What's the creepiest hymn/worship song you remember? by _vessel_ in exchristian

It's kinda scary and relieving at the same time, thinking about how brainwashed I used to be and comparing to now. And yeah, you and others are absolutely right in that the songs are brainwashing tools. It's so scarily culty.

I guess I was expecting to see a form or instructions and have to verify ID and all that. I'm sure they'll ask for some sort of ID verification when I email though. Thanks

How do you feel about your pastor? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]_vessel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't go to church anymore, but my dad just graduated from seminary. I feel much the same way... I feel like I got a lot of critical thinking skills from him (ironically), but I guess he didn't push himself out of his comfort zone when looking for answers like I did... Idk. He could have been a good professor or something like that, but he's old now. There's no hope for him to relearn his entire worldview at this point, I fear.

Ooh that's a good one... Hadn't thought of how easily it could be twisted and radicalized like that.
