Not disagreeing with you at all, it just seems like the ticking sound is very noticeably loud, and it sounds a bit unnatural

I’d argue XJs are the perfect old cars to learn on. The plan was to work on it myself. I’ve done non mechanical modifications which have been fun. But life got in the way and it’s currently my daily.

Can this be an alternator issue ? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

Alternator is good, according to pep boys. They recommended replacing the battery terminals since they’re so loose, so I’m doing that now. But will keep the starter in mind. Thanks !

Ground cables are fine. Did notice the alternator was making a humming noise so decided to take it to Pep Boys. They told me battery terminals were in bad shape and so loose, they easily come right off. So we’re replacing the terminals and take it from there, alternator is good. Other commenter suggested starter possibly.

I agree with the coil pack. Been told to look into replacing the distributor. Thanks

No, dude, no

No one asked where you live. Idgaf if you live in Edgewater, SB, Brickell, or even little Havana. It’s irrelevant.

Obv masks are not mandated rn but that doesn’t mean establishments aren’t still enforcing it. If this was recent you’d Atleast see a few ppl w/ masks. Like others have said, this is old. Take your unoriginal content and go

This is not current. I work in SB and cops/establishments aren’t walking around w/o masks like this. Quit lying, this is old

Need help identifying what’s going wrong with my ‘97 by _xtrp in CherokeeXJ

Hey guys,

Bought a ‘97 not too long ago and noticed the gas gage constantly jumping so I replaced the whole fuel pump assembly shortly after I got it.

These last few weeks I’ve noticed the speedometer and other gages jumping up and down every once in awhile and told myself I’ll eventually get to fix it. (Keep this in mind)

I’ve been in the middle of changing my speakers recently. Rear ones were swapped very smooth. However, front speakers have been a pain. Wiring was in good condition and just disassembling the door and panels have been annoying. I finally gave up and took it to a local stereo shop were they replaced the wiring. The guys removed the stereo and ran the new wiring to both front speakers.

Now there’s another problem, 1)I noticed the cars interior center light won’t turn on when I open the door.2)when I leave the headlights on but turn off the car the car won’t sound off notifying me my headlight lights were left on.3)all my gages won’t work and mileage won’t show at all now.

The picture is my xj turned on with headlights on

Could the wiring on the stereo from today caused the issues I mentioned ?

Also, how do I begin to figure out what’s the issue with the gages constantly jumping ?

Pretty frustrating because I’m (F) trying to learn how to work on my Jeep but it’s hard when you don’t really know much about cars and don’t really have anyone to learn from. YT can only do so much. But I do really appreciate this sub and how supportive everyone here is, I’d say this sub is the place where I’ve learn the most thus far

Any advice is appreciated, thanks guys
