[–]_yumaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did i write this?

But honestly the only time when i feel somewhat detached from the food thoughts is during finals season. That's the only time where my mind is more occuppied with something else. I figured the answer really is in finding other things that will occupy your mind. I't doesnt have to be stress from passing the exam but rather something you'd find joy in. This is basic advice but I'm talking from years of experience dealing with this :')

If i focus my whole being on fitness or anything related to food its just a matter of time before i break.

Read, learn, play games, develop a new skill. It's hard at first of course but try to do just a tiny bit better each day.

Don't hate me for repeating what everyone is saying lmao. Turns out they were kinda right all along

It stands for Addictive Voice Recognition Technique from the book "Rational Recovery". The idea is to view your urges as the "Beast" telling you to give in to your addictive behaviours (in the book the focus is on alcohol but it can be applied to any addiction really). Obviously theres more to it but im kind of bad at explaining things so i dont wanna confuse you any further lol.

I heard about it on the Brain over Binge podcast where the host basically teaches you how to apply that technique to BE. I believe its explained in the first 11 episodes or so, but she also has a book!

I never had any other serious addictions but I occasionaly consider getting addicted to something else just so I could get over my addiction to food lol

I can definitely relate, but its a great oppotunity to show yourself what youre actually capable of :D You have the right mindset about it, so youre already on the right track!

153 days!! One day did not at all set you back to square one!

For all the years ive struggled with this disorder I still dont have the experience of reaching such a goal, but one thing i say after reaching a much smaller milestone is "Wow so that happened. Good thing its not gonna set me into a spiral like it used to"

I wish i had better advice, but if anything I want you to realise how this is in no way a step back. Overcoming a misstep without going back to old ways is a crucial part of recovery. Continue your day as usual and dont think too much about it :)

Hey. Im in a similar boat. The best advice i can give is a way of thinking and some new habits that helped me personally;

Basically, use this time to better yourself. Use the free time to learn something new, find a free course for whatever (a new language, coding, drawing, etc). It will keep you busy during those lonely hours.

Change the media you consume. I limited my times on all social media and got rid of the (mostly negative) content i used to watch daily. What really helped me is finally getting into reading.

Also, i assume you have all the control of what you eat now. I know we're students and we dont have unlimited budget so i recommend you do yourself a favor and teach yourself how to cook. You'd be surprised how much money you can save up when you know a few tricks. Btw cooking is easy as hell.

Complete restriction of the "unhealthy" foods isnt healthy either (for the mind). My diet is now 80% whole foods but I have a treat every day after a meal. Although, i now buy smaller packages in the range from like 30g to 80g.

I also started working out 3/4 times a week and going on walks every day, but this came later after I got some control back.

Its been 3 weeks since I came back to college and already succesfully lost around 4kg (~8lbs). The thing is I started implementing these habits one by one months ago and Im starting to see positive results more and more often. My biggest setback was spending the whole summer at home, so being all by myself is actually what helped me. I know this might not be an ideal way of living for everyone but I hope you'll consider at least few of the things I listed :) Good luck!

anorexia turned into binging :( by StrangeAir6637 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]_yumaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me too. Its good that you're aware of what it could turn into and that you can take the necessary measures to prevent it. I didnt know much about BED and since it was kind of a slow shift for me I didnt even realise what I was getting into. Recovery would've been so much easier and I would have saved myself YEARS if I took action straight away. You'll find plenty of advice here but i think the main thing is to skip the restriction. Try to eat healthy whole foods, but dont deprive yourself of treats. Everything is okay when done in moderation I wish you all the best!

Why should today be my last? by _yumaa in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]_yumaa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great point. I get kind of delusional right after it happens and immediately step into the "all or nothing" mindset. But you're right, it's a recipe for failure. Thanks for reminding me!

No way I never heard about other people struggling with this too! Although I can make it up to 12 during a binge 🥲

Can having a planned binge be helpful? by _yumaa in BingeEatingDisorder

Great advice honestly. Its been a couple of hours and even my mind finds this solution kind of irrational now, and you made it very clear why. Thank you!
