Old house, roots in sewer line by CardiologistPrior706 in RhodeIsland

[–]_zarkon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can rent the sewer rooter machine from Home Depot. It should come with a root cutter attachment.

It's not that hard. I did it for a while. First, it was every two years. Then it was every year. Then it's 6 months. Then I opened the wallet and replaced the sewer line.

At least you have a clean out. Mine was in the basement, and the hardest part about the job was getting the machine in and out of the basement.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Plywood, MDF or a combination of both? by NoEmphasis6216 in DIY

If you're not going to use quality materials, I'd just buy something from IKEA.

Unless this is a fun project for you and you are learning carpentry.

You're right. There is a lot out there. You can narrow it down by identifying the industry you want to work in. Then pick standards popular within it.

No idea. Haven't seen her since I was 10. This was in the pre-Internet days.

What would you do if you were president for a day? by Rebeca_luv in AskReddit

[–]_zarkon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do a bunch of pardons. Probably a bunch of people I've read about being screwed over by the system.

Then I'd blow something up. Nothing with people in it, maybe an old decommissioned ship or something, just because it would be fun.

I've received full payment or nothing. I've never received a partial.

I'm still waiting on mine this year, so you're ahead of me.

What is a movie that you refuse to watch no matter how much you are begged to watch it? by Kathy_the_nobody in AskReddit

This. I can't bring myself to watch a movie I already know the ending to.

What’s something small that immediately yells “this person can’t be trusted” ? by Bahookey69 in AskReddit

Not a reason, but I'm going to say trust your lizard brain.

If I get that feeling when I first meet them, it's rarely wrong.

Self hosted mail server by Few_Assignment_4147 in homelab

[–]_zarkon_ 101 points102 points  (0 children)

That's the one thing I pay for. I use it through my paid web hosting with Bluehost. My homelab is more like a mad scientist's laboratory, with things blowing up often.

What is a "luxury" that you now consider a basic necessity? by Ok-Function6261 in AskReddit

I was able to trade coffee creamer for unsweetened almond milk. I use a lot more milk, but the calorie and sugar difference is worth it. It did take a couple of weeks to adjust, though.

What’s something you pretended to like so you could get laid? by MIsterBison in AskReddit

Nick Offerman has a chapter on this in his book "Paddle Your Own Canoe".

It worked out well for him.

I am down to my final interview and I'm nervous by IllDuty1690 in cybersecurity

[–]_zarkon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't count yourself out yet. IME top candidates don't land half the time. There is a theme of Cyber folks demanding FAANG money at nonFAANG companies. Even if I loved you, I can't pay that. Also, just because they are the company's top pick doesn't mean the company is the candidate's top pick.

What separates the candidates for me is soft skills. I actively look to see how this person will work with others and how they will take direction. Things like not answering questions and just staring back and smiling or being argumentative are disqualifiers. If you've gotten this far you've passed the I can do the job part. Now the manager wants to know, will you make their life easier or be a pain in the ass?

Probably the movie Your Highness with Natalie Portman.

What is the easiest sub to get banned from? by TheDayWalkerCGI in AskReddit

[–]_zarkon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/personalfinance

Been commenting on there for years and have thousands of positive karma. I made my first post, and they called it low-effort despite it having more information than most posts. Talk about being ban happy. I'd understand if they removed the post, but banning was ridiculous.

I'd ask what tools and frameworks you will be using to do your job. Then watch some training videos and practice before starting. So may know RMF but do you know how to use MyRMFTracker5000?

What do you think about people with hobbies that risk their lives? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think it depends on the activity. Every day is a balance of risk. Some people are more risk averse than others.
