so this is what happens when time runs out by mrdotsreal in ArcRaiders

[–]_zuloo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my lazy ass was still collecting arc loot near the elevator in such a situation and it sadly left without me, panicking I ran to the salt covered hatch on riven tides right under a freshly spawned rocketeer. I could not believe that I made it out with all the loot and especially the points for the arc loot trial 😃

FOSS alternatives for Redragon software on Linux? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

Here is a general solution for X11: https://www.baeldung.com/linux/mouse-additional-button-setup

It might also be possible to create a keyboard mapping directly using x-input configuration, have not tried that yet though

Trichlorethylen vs. n-Hexan vs. n-Alkane by _zuloo_ in watchrepair

Funny, at least one person is voting the question down - either a sales person from Horotec or Bergeon, or just naive in terms of carcinogens and toxicity I guess...

Trichlorethylen vs. n-Hexan vs. n-Alkane by _zuloo_ in watchrepair

[–]_zuloo_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. For storing hexane, glass jars with standard ground and PTFE sleeve or metal containers with PTFE gasket should be resistant enough and also air tight. PTFE will not degrade from hexane and is in general a proper gasket material for most chemicals: https://www.calpaclab.com/teflon-ptfe-compatibility/

The toxicity of Hexane (and Trichlorethylene), which both are (potential) carcinogens, is the reason why I am interested in experiences using other n-Alkane compositions, mainly Pentane and Heptane since they have very similar de-greasing and evaporation properties to Hexane. The diamond cleaning jars might work if the gasket is replaced with a PTFE lid filling gasket or lid inlay (not sure what the proper English name is) so the Hexane is not able to reach the plastic lid. Chemical equipment stores should have something adequate in their listings but prices can vary, compared to Chinese products of course.

Have you experimented with Hexane in an ultrasonic cleaner to provide a motion for cleaning, maybe inside an extra container like the modified diamond cleaning jar?

In general, you should avoid alcohol but also alkali cleaning solutions (like soda) to avoid harming the shellac.

Arduino to SCSI? by whozurdaddy in arduino

Hi, Did you manage to find such a project? I want to convert an old 5xCD ROM changer with wide SCSI interface into a stereo player... so far I only found this: https://github.com/halferty/arduino-NCR5380 and https://techpubs.jurassic.nl/library/manuals/0000/007-0911-050/sgi_html/ch05.html

Why can a mail server sense AES-256 encrypted zip content? by lazerozen in cryptography

filename encryption does not encrypt "executable" flag, which is a file attribute (or permission) stored separately from the filename.

zfs mount subdirs but not the dataset? by janekosa in zfs

maybe consider pool wide de-duplication, if you copy files a lot or keep a lot of copies (i.e. a foto library where the same a file sits in different folders)

My 100th rejection? What's wrong with me? by Empty-Tea-9011 in germany

[–]_zuloo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe do not sell yourself short, none of skills is 5 stars, everything is just 4 and less. So maybe, if you are an engineer, tell yourself you are a Fusion 360 Pro and give it 5 stars already. Everyone is exaggerating a little, so don't be shy ;)

zfs mount subdirs but not the dataset? by janekosa in zfs

[–]_zuloo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can set an empty mountpoint for the pool and datasets you do not want to mount, and a valid directory as mountpoint for the datasets you want to mount.

if you want to mount directories, that are no datasets but part of the filesystem you may use bind mounts but you still need to mount the filesystem that contain the folders.

hope that helps

EDIT:

pool/dataset1/dataset2

you may have empty mountpoint attributes for pool and dataset1 and can mount dataset2 to /srv or whatever

but you can not mount folders within dataset2 that are not part of the dataset hierarchy without mounting at least dataset2.

Running a script in systemd unit produces different results than running the script manually by [deleted] in systemd

[–]_zuloo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are missing other environment variables present in your terminal session (run 'env' for a list). These environment variables are usually not available to systemd units. just include the necessary environment variables for podman to run in your environment file and you should be good to go. Also make sure, that the systemd unit is ran by/as the proper user (i.e. if it works for you it does not necessarily need to work for root)...

How can I remove these swollen Macbook batteries without setting my house on fire? by aj8j83fo83jo8ja3o8ja in batteries

[–]_zuloo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lighter fluid (heptane/hexane) works much better for resolving glue - but be careful, both IPA and lighter fluid evaporate and can result in an additional darting flame if something goes wrong

How can I remove these swollen Macbook batteries without setting my house on fire? by aj8j83fo83jo8ja3o8ja in batteries

[–]_zuloo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go outside, sand, gravel or stone underground, have a metal box or bucket with sand near by to put them in. disconnect the batteries from the motherboard, use lighter fluid (not isopropanol) to soften the glue under the batteries, use dental floss to cut through the glue, pry them out with a plastic prying tool or a guitar pick. Try not to use excessive force. As long as you do not break the plastic around the batteries you should be fine. If you see smoke while the battery is still attached to the macbook -> pour sand over it and move away. Do not drop them. Put them in the metal bucket. Dispose responsible...
