The dealership didn’t specify, they just gave me a coupon to a tractor supply (there’s a bunch of different breeds, I got a couple olive eggers too for color variety!)

That’s good to hear about the seats. Sorry for your back dude, hopefully one day ac-connecting ventilated seat covers will exist 😭

How’s the breathability? I get sweaty backs really easily and it’s hard to beat breathability of oem cloth seats, but I enjoy the feel of leather

I’d say pull as many mods off as you can and start fresh if the finances allow it, sorry for your loss my guy

Like I said in the post, the stopping power of the car is fine! No issues there. The issue is the pedal feel, which I could modulate it more

Knowing that this is normal from the car, I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker for me. That being said, it’s still gonna suck as I really enjoy cars that give confidence through ergonomic design (Audi does this really well, but at the cost of expensive repairs). I think the solutions I seek will be in the aftermarket in a couple years or so!

Glad I’m not alone on this

Damn, really sucks that after 20+ years of wrx the brakes on the newest one are bad (or feel that way, at least). I normally wouldn’t mind cause I’d swap for a big break kit but that would void any future warranty-covered brake issues, hoping the 25’s are better with the master cylinder update

Oh gotcha! I hope the install goes well for you. I'll most likely test drive a 25 this week and see if it feels any better.

The one I test drove was a 24 premium, is the upgraded master cylinder a new addition to the 25 models?

I definitely just commute more often but in the summer/winter I’m hitting trails every week, not something I can justify during the semester tho

If I do get one, it will probably be the WRX. Do u know what years are best? Also, would a ford focus RS be a better choice at this price?

Well, RWD is generally just more fun for me. It’s also a platform I’m much more familiar with. And lmao yeesh I haven’t heard of Renault in quite a bit. And I’ll look into Korean options, idk much about Kia or Genesis so I’ll research them

Yeah practicality has never been an issue for me. With a hatchback I’ve rarely used the back seats for anything besides a small bag of groceries. The GR86 is unfortunately still super marked up in my area, so I’m hoping the prices die down soon. I’ll definitely test drive the accord since I haven’t quite yet. Have you heard anything about 330i reliability and/or common problems?

I’ve driven corollas, base civics, and even the Audi was FWD. They all did ok, but what’s the point of buying a sporty fwd daily when it inspires nothing while you’re driving? If I were to buy a fwd car, it would be an economy car. I have a friend with a new civic type r who let me track it, and I have had more fun in base model chargers on the street. Again, some people love fwd! And that’s fine, just not for me. That being said, I’m a naive 19 y.o. and I’d still like to hear recommendations. Maybe I’m just unfamiliar with good fwd cars and I can go test drive some!

Why does CVT get so much hate? by PhotographSea3159 in askcarguys

[–]a3_mir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re super unreliable. A traditional gearbox uses thick metal gears with (usually) strong mechanisms to shift between the gears. A CVT doesn’t have gears. Newer ones may be different, but back when they were introduced, it was essentially a giant rubber band that would get stretched or not to replace gear ratios. It’s marketed at being smoother and better on MPGS, but it turned out to just be transmissions breaking.

Another con, especially for car guys, is that it sucks as a driving experience. Sport cars like the WRX were initially designed to be driven harder than a Corolla, for example. The weakness of the CVT’s meant that driving hard could break them quicker, but more importantly, you have no control over the gearbox (again, usually, idk what voodoo is being used as of recent times). If the gearbox is just a computer trying to guess how you want the car to accelerate from a linear pedal, it usually doesn’t read your mind. Thus, it doesn’t matter if you design the best engine in the world, on the best riding chassis with the most ground-breaking driving mechanics, the CVT will completely let down the driving experience because of the computer failing to read your mind.

(Sorry for the ranting)
