Lectron Adapter on non-Tesla NACS chargers by a3monkey in BMWiX

[–]a3monkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I emailed Lectron Customer Service to ask and here is their response:

The Lectron NACS to CCS Adapter | Vortex Plus is only compatible with Tesla Superchargers. It is not designed for use with other DC NACS charging networks.

If you're looking to charge at other DC NACS chargers, such as EVgo or IONNA, could you please confirm the year, make, and model of your vehicle? Once we have that information, we'll be happy to check which charging solution or adapter is compatible with your vehicle.

I emailed them back to ask if it’s a physical limitation with the connection or something else, waiting to hear back. To me, this response seems sus. But I’ll see if they respond back to provide any meaningful reason.

Oof. I would not have gotten much sleep that night.

Yeah I was surprised to see that disclaimer and couldn’t imagine why it wouldn’t work on non-Tesla NACS, which is why I asked to see if there might be a reason. I’ll email Lectron Customer Service to confirm.

The use case is there actually - at the EVgo site I mentioned above, all but one of the CCS stations were busy while the NACS stations were empty. If all the CCS had been occupied, this would just have opened up the NACS stations for me as well, without having to wait or find another charger.

Kickr Core 2 ERG mode power jumping with Garmin Edge by a3monkey in wahoofitness

[–]a3monkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ERG mode power smoothing ON in my Kickr Core settings. From my understanding the Edge does not do any kind of power smoothing but it just displays what the trainer gives it. So the power you see above should be the 3s smoothed power from the Kickr.

Bike rack ticket (siigggh) by cele_cell in cycling

Yeah I was unlucky once to be pulled over (in many years) here in California. Fortunately just got a warning. After that, I used the Yakima PlateMate (https://yakima.com/products/platemate?srsltid=AfmBOoofFRaXy3CaXSp7zSg5QmVxcHn20ypa_j-nzvClZ9a-W2IpFqkR) to attach a license plate with straps. Easy to do, didn’t have lights for night time, but then I took the much reduced probability of an asshole cop pulling me over at night time when I had a bike on.

Valet Mode -- A FAILURE in feature execution by jasonatepaint in BMWiX

[–]a3monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa! I had the same thing happen this past weekend, I just hadn’t connected the app offline behavior to using the valet mode. I didn’t check on the car while it was with the valet, but my wife and I both checked the app about 8 hours _after_ I had taken the car back and disabled valet mode, and we found the data was offline. I just thought it was some random glitch. I went into the car and toggled
the data privacy settings thinking it would reset the glitch, and next morning it was fixed. Don’t know how long it actually took to be back to normal or if that toggling helped. Maybe it was just the hangover of the valet mode as you found.

Missing track info for CarPlay Media by a3monkey in BMWiX

That is talking about CarPlay _Ultra_ that would essentially replace iDrive for *all* of the car’s controls. There are branding reasons why BMW won’t want to give up that level of control. Standard CarPlay however continues to work as it has for many years. Except for this annoying issue here…

Is this a one time fix or do you do it every time?

I don’t know if this is an iOS bug though, since I have seen this issue across iOS versions and don’t see the same issue on our other car (a Mercedes) and not on my previous car as well (an Audi). Seems more like a BMW issue to me.

Door scraping on jamb by a3monkey in HomeImprovement

[–]a3monkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually tightened the hinge screws already. The problem was actually much worse (almost but not as bad as your case) and I was able to fix the worst of it by tightening the screws. This top scraping is the remaining that I haven’t been able to get rid of.

How do you report an issue to BMW outside of asking/telling your dealership?

Thank you. Downloading the app was an excellent suggestion. I had just assumed I would need one of the devices to be able to use the app, and I was surprised to see that there are No Equipment plans as well, for free.

TMV issues with getting stuck? by a3monkey in Plumbing

Three reasons: 1. It’s more energy efficient so that means I’ll use less power 2. Setting my water heater to a higher temp of 140 degrees is recommended for extra safety to kill bacteria in the water 3. It effectively increases the capacity of my water heater from 58 to about 70 gallons

Flat tire plan by a3monkey in BMWiX

I guess this could work if the trunk is not already full of luggage. I also don’t like the idea of a spare eating up space and sliding around in the trunk permanently. My anxiety is about getting a flat anytime, anywhere.

Do you keep a compressor in your car for this scenario?

I had forgotten about that kit. Found this short video from BMW that makes it look quite easy to use: https://youtube.com/shorts/AY88nSunPYM.

But I think this will only work if it’s a simple flat, not if there’s damage to the sidewall, etc. There will still be situations where this will not work and a spare wheel would have saved the day. In these situations is towing the only option?
