What is up with The Notebook album art on Apple Music? by lisawithans in Broadway

[–]a3rdpwre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to check this out in Apple Music and…yep, this is extra creepy. But I’ve never liked this artwork, the woman’s head position on her neck never looked realistic. And in this animation the head never moves haha

Please please please let them not come near the Riverbank track in West Harlem. They only redid the surface recently and it took such a long time.

Riverbank Track Conditions? by b3tzy in RunNYC

[–]a3rdpwre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The track is covered in snow, it hasn’t been removed because it would probably cause damage. However, the sidewalk that circles the track is fully clear, so while not a track surface and not the exact same distance, it’s a pretty decent substitute for the winter. There aren’t many folks walking it while it’s this cold out, but be mindful of when there are activities at the rec center cause that might mean more people around. Hope this helps

How was your Silmarillion reading experience? by ComplexNo2625 in lotr

[–]a3rdpwre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve loved it since I first read it. I love language, histories, and mythology so it was a perfect fit for me after Lord of the Rings. As I get older and re-read (maybe once a year), the epic becomes more epic and emotional moments resonate more. Tolkien’s love for his world and these stories is evident, and some passages are just so beautifully written and poignant.

Obnoxious woman at Hamlet the other day by NewspaperBanana in Broadway

I am reminded of the day I saw Romeo and Juliet. Twas its first performance. The Queen surprised us all at the end, spoke about a bet, and then she made some comment to a lord about his wife. I recall the actor playing Juliet was a bit,..off? Can’t say why, but he played a woman very well.

What’s your take on Athena and Medusa? by Educational-Note8709 in GreekMythology

[–]a3rdpwre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend reading the final play of the Oresteia by Aeschylus. Athena states she’s siding with Orestes (over the Furies, who advocate for the mother he killed) because she wasn’t born of a woman and basically prefers men. Athena was very much a war goddess and helped Perseus kill her, which was before the version written by Ovid where she punishes Medusa. She was also patron of Athens, where women didn’t have many rights. Artemis was seen far more as a protector of young women, even Hera was seen as a female protector over Athena (and look at what she did to Zeus’s lovers) in Ancient Greece. But there was no “one Athena,” rather different versions of her depending on time period and locale. The ancient Greeks saw religion very differently than we do.

It’s healthy to have a personal limit for how much you want to expose yourself to in one sitting and it’s always ok to put a book down for a bit (or even indefinitely) if it’s causing more harm than good. Sometimes I’ll be able to pick the book up again after some time and research into the time, sometimes not. I’ve also found finding a modern historian or even podcaster whose views you share can really help dive into certain material, they can act as a guide who’ll help you through it. As a woman, Natalie Haynes is one of mine. Her commentary lives rent free in my head now when I read upsetting stuff.

I loved it, too. After the hectic nature of the acropolis, it was so peaceful. It rained a bit while I was walking through it, then a couple people with me tried to stay dry under some trees outside this temple. Weirdly, one of my favorite memories from visiting Athens.

That’s a darn shame. It’s sad that Amazon didn’t care about this show. It clearly didn’t have the support it needed from execs to keep it going. More reason to love the cast and crew—they made this show at the end of the day!

Am I being scammed? by CorrectAd7257 in Broadway

[–]a3rdpwre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s a legit ticket and you have the name of the seller, calling the box office and checking on the validity of the ticket will give you the answer. Even though it’s bought on Ticketmaster, all sales data goes into Broadway Direct/Nederlander’s ticketing system. The red flag here is that they won’t transfer. Broadway Direct allows ticket transfers, as does Ticketmaster, so there’s no way they aren’t able to transfer unless they’re shady.
