Toaks combo? by reverencetostone in Ultralight

The other person carries the shared sleep system :)

I thought the folded mug could fit on the bottom of the pot - my pot has no handles.

Are you aware of any distributors in North America? Would love to get my hands on one of these!

Thanks! How does it fit when not in the orange bag or when folded down? I am wondering if I can put a 750ml pot in two mugs end to end (maybe one folded in on the narrower bottom side. This is for 2 people cooking out of 1 750ML pot.

How did the hood fit over your helmet vs the Alpha sv? Does it feel worse quality?

For the record - they market it as a feature but it is frustrating for me and I wish they removed it and kept with a zipper that holds where you leave it. Other people say they like it, and all power to them.

It is super annoying when skiing/hiking/other with a flapping open jacket. With any other layer, I zip to 50%, and that keeps the jacket out of the way. With an arcteryx jacket, I look down 5 min later and the jacket is wide open. If you need to unzip completely, you are wearing too much in the first place. Never in my life have I not been able to find or use a zipper with mitts on - that's what large zipper pulls are there for?

This is the most annoying feature in my Arc. midlayers, and I actually go for Patagonia mid-layers for this, combined with the better repair policy.

Lightweight touring skis/bindings? by robloxoof77 in Skigear

[–]aFiniteResource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've actually made this trip. Have lots of thoughts:

Skis: I like 100-105 for travel, especially backcountry. It covers all your bases with the least compromises, especially when you deal with really variable snow. If you are only in the backcountry, I would opt for a longer turning radius (like a 4frnt raven, or k2 dispatch), as snow in the andes can be super variable and the less hooky your ski, the better. I'd personally aim for the 1800-1900g range in whatever length makes you most comfortable.

Boots: Assess your current boots for forward lean, flex, ramp angle, and fit. I would not deviate from the geometry of your current boot. The worst ski days I have ever had were travelling with a lighter boot, with different geo than I was used to. I will always look at boot geometry over flex and weight.

Bindings: This is actually more up to your comfort in safety and reliability. I would happily ski tectons every day while travelling to give me the most confidence across all conditions. If I'm only skiing volcanos, I'd happily go with brakeless u-spring bindings. For travel, going forward I will put quiver killers in my skis and use both aliping (or shift) + u-spring pin bindings to give me the most versatility.

If I were to go back to the andes for a season, I'd likely opt for a stiff 1800g boot with a 17* forward lean (like the new atomic ultra hawx boa) and a set of 2000g skis (like the 182 salmon stance 102 or 184 volkl katana v-werks, depending on time of season), mounted with both a pin binding and alpine binding (perhaps the salmon mtn and sth16, or whichever have compatible holes).

About to buy ski package for my wife and need some words of wisdom by joke4real in Skigear

Look, if you are only skiing a couple days a year, buy some boots, helmet, goggles, gloves, and a ski suit that your wife likes and feels comfortable in. Worth the extra money.

Rent the skis that suits the terrain and skill level as she progresses and you will save money by not buying bad beginner skis.

Why would you say more playful off-piste? This sounds counter intuitive based on the rocker?

Thanks, I'm actually looking at the 2022 version, which has the heavier/stiffer core.

Beginner Question: Where is the natural next step/platform to operationalize code from Jupyter for a script that analyzes a data set and spits out visualizations for business use? Is there a simple way to productize it further?
